I've tried to find out a few times in the past - i've emailed Mazda Australia and they've got no clue - they just give me the generic answer of 'it embodies the spirit and passion of the mazda brand" or somesuch nonsense
Astina is actually a type of lettuce, tho

Let me guess, a dark coloured lettuce... a noble green lettuce?
Well... it would explain the popularity of Noble Green, and we can't leave out the Sparkle Greeners either, they can be baby lettuce....

Nah, i was wrong - it's a type of pea!
"Astina: a medium size green field pea"
but interestingly, Astina is a balinese word for 'name of a kingdom in the Mahabrata story'
More about it here (http://www.info-indo.com/wayang/sundanesepuppet.htm), but whether thisis where the name came from - who knows?

Obviously the Pea/Lettuce thing is the real reason though ;)
