with all this talk about the kf, kl conversions, has made me want to make my v6 go faster :D buit i dont have the money for a conversion..but ive been thinking about the jap-spec 2.0L v6 cos it has around 20 more kw then the aussie version... but i dont actully know what the difference between the engines to gain that extra 20kw...... so if any one knows plz tell all.....

I believe its the ecu. The aus spec ecu is tuned down to meet our standards. Run the jap ecu and she prob be a little quicker.

not just the ecu, chucking the jap spec ecu into an aussie spec motor will make no difference at all, infact you will most likely lose power.

I have stated it many a time and i will state it once more....

The jap spec V6's in the 2.5 and 2.0 litre formats both make about 20kw more then the aussie spec versions but this is how:

Higer comp
More aggressive cams
Different inlet manifold design
and a different ecu tuned obviously for 100ron but it also actuates the VRIS butterflies in the IM and different point for better torque and power in the high rpm range(5500 - 7500)

Having said that thereis nothing stopping you getting the japspec cams,IM,and ecu but it will cost you more than a complete lantis front cut.

Thanks 'Low",

I assume that this is what the 'Type R' Lantis JDM imports we get here in NZ are. I could not get a straight answer from any of the car dealers who sold 'Type R' Lantis/Astinas here as to actually what Type R actually meant. Most answers (even from 'Performance Car specialists' went along the lines: a higher spec level - which I guess is true to an extent!).

I have a 2l v6 1993 Lantis Type R. BTW where did you get this info from as I have not been able to find any info (in English at least) on Type R/JDM Lantis/Astinas.

A question: would it be better to run it on 91 unleaded or 98 PULP. The last owner has been running it on 91 - cheaper but not better I suspect.

Cheers :)
