hey guys,
i heard a rumour that if you were going to put mags on your car they could only be 3 sizes bigger than what you alredy have. for instance my Astina has 14" on it at the monent and i'm looking to to upgrade. but if this rumour is true the biggest i could put is 17". which sucks majorly. have you guys heard anything about and am i able to put on 18" if i wanted.
thanks a bunch

the mazda BA tyre placard has 16s on it, in nsw you should be able to go to 18s then.
if not, pay a engineer $160 and have them checked to legalities. not much since 18" rims + tyres start from $1600.

If you wanna know what size wheels you can use, or anything at all
with regards to modifications to your car... best place to start is
right here...
National Code of Practice for Light Vehicle Construction and Modification (NCOP) (http://www.dotars.gov.au/roads/safety/bulletin/vsb_ncop.aspx)
As for individual state legislations, I'm still trying to find them.
I hope this will help out a bit...
Take a look at the chart on page 17 of NCOP11 Section LS Suspension and steering 3 Feb 2006.
yep 2inch bigger 1 inch wider... must sit within guard and not stick out... anything else must be engineered

i thought in NSW u could go as big as you like as long as the overall rolling diameter of your rim and tyre combined does not exceed the stock by 16mm.....if thats the case then from memeory u can legaly put 18's as long as u have bout 30 profile tyres

lol skitz you get screwed too.
in QLD we can go as big as we like as long as the rolling diameter difference is within +15/-25 mm difference from original rolling diameter. if we want bigger/smaller then we need to have then engineered.
ok so i'm bored and i'm looking for factsheets for each states particular modifying laws:

Hey what about tread, does that affect the overall size much and the speedo much at all.
When you have new tires they have like 12 - 15mm or tread, when they are on their last legs, they obviously don't.
Does that affect those measurements or the speedo much.

yes, along with tyre pressure... you can work out the difference in accuracy but i'd guess no more than 1%..
