Hey guys and girls,
Decided to post this here because it's more of an observation.
I got my lucas brake pads put in about 3 weeks ago, then just got the car back from a service and found out that the pads are at 50% wear at both front and rear.
Could the mechanic been mistaken as to how much they've worn (if the pads are thinner than normal etc.?) or do they just wear out that fast? (i haven't been braking that hard).

Brake pads don't wear that fast and the timing belt should last 100,000 between changes.

my lucas pads did 70,000km and were only 30%-50% worn.

assumptions are the mother of all **** ups ;) be sure as the brake pads are the ONLY thing that are going to stop you!

Mmmm indeed. I was close to 0% before i got them so i'm just happy to be in double figures ;)
They were powdery like crazy, specially after a brisk drive through the royal national park (great drive - envious of sutherlanders), so i did believe it was possible. Next service i'll know if their wear goes up =)

One thing to take note of is, In msot cases the better the pad the shorter the life.
I had set of Race spec Gav sports in my mx-6 4 weeks - in sydney taraffic and metal to metal contact
I also shampered ultimates well - as said by a person who repaires GT-P cars and other race cars. - Never seen pads shampered like that even on the track.
So bad if you did't pump the brakes before or often you would have no pad agisnt the discs - many close calls.

No offence but your mechanic isn't the most honest person on earth. It's the kind of thing you here often and then all of a sudden 10,000 ks later, u rock up for another service and he says oh by the way, remember last time i told u u only had 50% left in your break pads? it's time to change them, and the front left disc is also worn pretty thin and you should replace all 4 at once otherwise RISK causing ireprable harm to your precious.
My advise? Blow your mechanic off, blow them all off, by a $50 Hynes manual and learn how to service for yourself, save $$$$ and time, not to mention that's one fewer d1ck head in your life.
A little bitter tonight, but then, i didn't get any after a long & boring date so heres me rant rant rant rant rant... blah blah blah blah,
The whole service yourself is a bit of good advice though ;)

HAHAHA, could take it one step further with that joke but i'll hide it in the next paragraph.
I'd really like to learn to change my brake pads, dunno about bleeding the brake fluid, but pads definately.

I've done about 10,000km on my Lucas pads and I can't tell them from new. Not noticeably thinner without holding a new set next to them.

I service my own car, replacing gaskets, sparkies, leads and the like but always stress about doing the brakes. But totally agree, do as much as you can yourself because this way you learn more about the car and you save huge dollars. If you dont know much then do a TAFE course or buy a book. Sick of mechanics saying stupid s**t to me just to get some of my hard earned coin.

Well, i'm a sydney boy, live in Maroubra, so next time you feel like chaning your brake pads, bleeding them or whatever, give me a holler, i check the site every few days, come by my garage and we'll do 'em together, after that you'll see how easy it is and never need help again.
And yeppers, i got owned, no less by the boy wonder lover. Oh well. It's been a very long dry run now. No GF for 4 months now, i don't get some soon, i reckon i might forget how to use it.
I'm sure i've already forgoten where it goes!

Man the shire is weird. take it from me I don't get it.
People talk about red necks etc all living there blah blahl All Bs if you ask me.
I know several owners of large apartments and buildings in the area. Not one of them live in the shire - and not one would by a typical surfy type blonde blue eyed sun burnt Aussie.
I have friend in Silvania waters and well they had Tv show about it hey.
Not one of them is - So called Full blood anglo Saxon, aussie.
I loved how people who SAY I'm FROM THE SHIRE. I go really so your own a house there - NO - you born in the shire - ah NO.
so why are you from the SHIRE ?
I'm from LAKEMBA. Or more comonly known as LEBKEMBA to some locals or THE HOOD to people from north? ( I don't know why got told it ) Or even the GAZA STRIP.
But I was born and raised in Lakemba and yet I don't tell everyone about it only if they ask. Plus I find more people don't hate you they just find it Weird.
The shire is gods country in some was- The footy team is supported by it and in doing so 41 years and No premierships. LOL
Our footy team simple - 54 Million in Pokie TAX!. hmm obviously if we have Nice beaches and Lovely females like Lara Bingle ( not a fan) or bridge to seperate it from the rest, well We too would not put so much time into pokies. Which reminds me, Pokies are bad.
It's not the shire peoples fault for being so isolated, they just like paying higher prices. It's like north or south. West or east. You may win in one way you losse in another.
Oh back on topic
Anyone here remember the great ability of Aspestos PADS.
I just fitted some to friends BG SP. with DBA slotteds. I tell you right now, you can't get that type or No dust- Good wear and braking perforrmance.
Old Standards by bendix. A quick bed no squel - and just pulls up time and time again.
I remember my first set of non Aspestos pad had to go ultimates to the get the braking. No disc wear or limited but just almost endless good feel and pulls up hard.

Asbestos was banned for a reason. Great that you found some pads. I hope that they were sitting on some shelf for the last 12 years and not made by some poor drone in china who in the coming years will die of lung cancer. Try and stay away from them bud. They may stop well but they do lots of harm to everything else.

well I'll put it like this They are old stock and I've done so many and worked around so many I probelry already have aspestos poisoning - ask any marchanic been in trade for more then ten and ask them do you use a Mask when you remove brake drums or calipers ?
Trains only go rid of all aspestos pads well - I'm going out and saying about 1 year ago because I doubt all Rollingstock in the coutnry has had all pads changed. It's very unlikley.
The danger is not so much in use it's more so in the Fitting and removal.
As a late teen before the M5 east was built several house in the way- We use ot walk past form school on the way to cricket for the 2 season I can remember - Those hoses were target practice and well lets just say if you throw a year 10 student into a wall of fibro something has to give - his ribbs and the wall. Aspestos will be around for many more years but that will be last thing to kill me.
