Hi all,

I have a Lantis 1994 series. my problem is that my transmission just gave out. I was in drive mode when the car just started to rev and not accelerate. Non of the gears were engaging (D,R,2,1) although the cable was intact.

Can anyone give me some options on how to proceed. A new transmission in Trinidad (http://www.visittnt.com) (http://www.triniscene.com) will cost approx. 5,000 US. e,g. if I can use the 323f transmission. What to have my mechanic take into consideration.

Try finding a reconditioned transmission, somewhere in the Pacific and importing it into your country! It will cost no more than $1000US!

if you r really lucky you might get a service an it could be slipping bands which will be adjusted in a service or the talk convertor could have **** itself

I'd check that you still have fluid in the trans. You may need to fix a leak and top-up (re-fill) to get back on the road. The Torque converter (bit that couples the engine to the trans) uses a viscus/fluid coupling. No fluid, No drive.

My Mechanic just called it appeas that the The Torque converter is the culprit. He is suggesting a rebuild if we can't get one locally. Anyone has suggestions

a torque convertor rebuild shouldn't be to costly but he has to take out the gearbox to do it . i would go for a reco exchange fitted a have the transmission serviced at the same time then u will have many happy years motoring mite be a few hundred dollars though that aussie dollars
