I've got my hands on a 1990 P10 Primera with an SR20 and it's manual!
It's done high KMs (230,000) and it's a little rough around the edges, but mechanically it's better than the Astina. And to be honest, 145 on the clock of the Astina can't be true. It's probably done more than the Primera judging by it's condition.
The Primera is a little bit quicker than the Astina (150bhp for the Jap ones, vs something like 135 for the Astina) and it handles nicer and stays quite flat around corners.
I just need to get a few things for it, new front and back seats (I think the previous owner let something die on them), a new electric aerial (it was snapped off) and a wheel alignment. In the future it will need a new clutch and probably rear shocks as ones a little noisy.
I just have to fix a few interior things like power window switches and a few rattles.
All in all, it's a nice car, the Astina was just starting to get too much work to keep on the road. It will be missed.
On a side note, does anyone know anything to look out for in the P10s?

It's a sedan. Don't you have them in Aus? I'll be sure to get pics tomorrow.
The height of the roof is actually about the same as the astina, and they're not very long either, quite a small car I'd say.

Going by playing the old Gran Turismo 1 & 2 on playstation (:p), Im pretty certain the primera was the pulsar equivalent over here... Im pretty certain the boys over at pulsar.org would know the definite answer...

Actually yes, thinking back to my days of GT on Playstation 1, there was a sedan Pulsar and I do recall it looking very similar if not the same as a Primera.

Well here it is:

It's a Primera S apparently. All I know is it's got an SR20DE, no ABS or LSD.
I've been working on it all day today, besides being an absolute disgusting mess inside it's not in too bad condition. I've fixed plenty of rattles, most were just screws loose. Unfortunately the front speakers were 4*6 or something strange so I can't use the Kenwood splits from my Astina in it. Not sure what size the rear is yet, maybe 5.25. Can't wait to get my stereo in there, guess I'll have to buy 4 new speakers though :(
I love the way it handles, much better than the Astina, and it has a nice firm ride. The torquey 2L engine is a nice change from the Astina too, it'll get quite a move on under 4k rpm.
Edit: The previous owner was a moron. The window switches are in the centre console just by the handbrake. Two of the switches had fallen down and the other two had one screw missing at one end so if you pushed on it it moved down. When I pulled the trim off all the screws were sitting there glued to the carpet by old lolly pops and tobacco tar, and so was the central locking button cover! Poor thing's been neglected :(

as if it handles better than a astina...
looks nice and straight, congrats man. I wouldn't buy new speakers. get moulds made to fit your old ones.

"silly squid", ahahahahah, that just clicked.Yeah, giggles! :D But it's like an N14 front with N15 rear. Mind you what they called the sedan in our N14 was gay, it was just like the hatch but the boot stopped at the curvy window.
congrats. hope it serves you well,
but why buy the car if you're not happy with its condition ?

I am happy with it's condition, mechanically it's good and all the silly little problems I can fix myself.
I've got some new seats to replace the stained ones, $50 for front and back, they're tidy but a little mucky, also a new drivers window switch and drivers seatbelt clip. Picked up an ashtray to replace a missing one too. There's a guy who wrecks them living just down the road. There's part for miles for these things.
I did a skid on the drive before and both wheels spun, it may just have an LSD... fingers crossed.

it doesnt have an LSD...your car is the equivilant to the SSS in aus...the Q had ABS and all that crap...dont do anymore burnouts or youll wreck your box, they are weak, thats why most change to a 300ZX box but thats RWD...also the torque destroys the rear torque mount so check it out, they are prone to powersteering leaks and the CV's like to pop out on the Turbo SR20's...get a heavy duty clutch and then shell love the extra clamp too! oh and watch for torque steer!!!

LSD is an option on the Jap models. Shingle and grass skid test tells me it has an LSD, as does pulling out into traffic where the Astina would've spun up pretty bad, this just hangs on . I'll jack it up and spin the wheels tomorrow though.
I haven't done a burnout and don't intend to. It sucks to hear the boxes are weak though :(
Rupewrecht

Only weak if turboed. Not as weak as Astina boxes tho...but not far off. At least the casings are strong.

so astina boxes are in fact weak. does that apply to g series boxes as well?

They're just not designed for the sort of power that is often put thru them.
RedLineResident
02-11-2007, 10:43 AM
but stock they should survive fine even though they get pushed a bit.
Mine isn't too big on power so i have nothing to worry about i take it.
