Team B3Motorsports Takes Out The Street Front Wheel Drive Championship!

It has been a season of incredible highs and lows for Team B3Motorsports. From personal best times - cementing the Astina as the worlds fastest regularly raced NA SP20, to constantly fighting breakage and wear on the transmission, driver Andrew Bode coasted to an easy season victory, despite being eliminated in the first round at the final event of the season.

All in all, a great success for the only car which was driven to and from every meet, including interstate events, and raced hard in 3 states to insure victory.

The car and driver now take a well earned break before the 2008 season begins at Melbourne's Heathcote Raceway in February.

The 2008 season will be the farewell season for the tough little Astina, with B3Motorsport's next big thing being prepared during the season, ready for its debut in the 2009 season. We don't want to let too many secrets out - but rest assured it will be front wheel drive, it will be turbo charged, and it will run into the 8 second zone at over 150mph. The car body and engine are already in the workshop, with roll cage and panel work to commence very soon.

That doesn't mean driver and crew will be sitting still on the Astina. With a reasonable break before Heathcote, the Astina will be torn down, gearbox rebuilt and upgraded, and a forged bottom end going into the FSDE power plant. The team is confident of having the car run some respectable 13 second passes before it is retired to daily driving duties.

Team B3Motorsports would like to thank all those who have supported us throughout the year as well as friends and family who have ensured our first season out was a successful one.

To celebrate - we're offering all our subscribers a 5% discount on Microtech LT10S engine management systems. i think the word you are looking for there is "everyone", not "anyone". this is a general release that has gone out, and no not everyone knows the full details about the car. yes it's a 1985 crx which most people know, but there's numerous secrets that are yet to be released

Nice work Andy, this new project sounds interesting, when will it be "released to the public"? So I'm thinking something along the lines of that orange CRX with the big custom front end and massive drag slicks. I like it!
But just for nostalgia reasons I reckon you should have a small SP20 badge on the dash of the car, just so you can remember where it all started!

will be arranging time with ray box from sport compact group once it's close to being finished. wont go into great details, but yes, big mofo slicks up front...

all I can say is good stuff.

I've got Supernats at WSID this weekend - Mates Maloo is hoping to run into the 8's already been in the 9's but this time with FlyWheel out put near 900HP. I just hope I get a chance to go out and watch it run.

Good luck with it.

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE (incase posting in a forum isnt immediate)
I'm assuming that's a dig at me, and my press release. Well, when you decide to get a bit more coverage than on an internet forum where you do the posting, mainstream media and publishing agencies like a bit more professionalism than, "I'm the best and I drove fast like"... Evident by the fact that the QLD Roar were happy to have my race car on display at Suncorp Stadium. And also my press release found it way onto one of Australia's largest motorsport news websites.

Congrats on the win, and good luck with it all. Not my cup of tea, but I appreciate it is yours, and you're passionate about it. But you certainly could learn a fews things that could help you, but unfortunately its not helped by the fact that you're a genuine smart arse most of the time...

I was one out of only 7 people out of the entire championship to score points in each round for the season.

It's a pitty that no other competitor took the whole champion seriously. Otherwise it could've been an exciting year then. Cos some of the other cars put up some impressive times.

it was a lot closer than the points indicate - dave homer was in a position to take out the championship - especially given the rule changes for the last round (he had a lot of work to do to get it, but he was well and truely within striking distance) - but the reschedule of the event due to rain meant that dave had some hill climb event to attend - and a whole bunch of other guys didn't make the long drive back up to brisbane from sydney to compete in the re-run. So it was a bit anti-climactic.

Congrats on the win andy, was there last saturday to see the race, my question is why did ya back off when u got to about 3 quarters down the track, not worth it or something cause u had red-lighted?? Always great to see the mighty old asty kicking some fwd ass :D

twilightprotege

yeah saw i had the red light and just couldnt be bothered to keep pushing it hard. no point. that's the downside of a dyo race for the slower car. the person who red lights first loses straight away. the other guy had a larger breakout than me, so in a heads up race i would have won.

hows the car running? i heard you had a nitrous setup but was only running 15s at heathcote?

actually ran 14's early in the day - but persistent transmission issues, coupled with being stuck in the right hand lane for most of the day didn't help matters...

Very few cars were at their best at Heathcote, and Andy's astina was no exception.

Nitrous set up is only around a 35 to 40 shot, and was jetted quite rich... something that will be worked on for Minijam (we're going to see what we can do about the gearbox too, but with only a few weeks until the next round, getting a full blown rebuild done is kind of out of the question) - the stop gap exhaust system is finally coming off, with a decent header and new cat back going on to assist. Assuming the gearbox holds up (which is a huge assumption....its certainly on its last legs), the car should be back to its best and then some.

Still waiting to see how points are going to be allocated. Andrew ran in a combined bracket, but was runner up in his specific bracket - if last year is anything to go by, his runner up will stand - but you never know...they could turn around and allocate points to the combined bracket, meaning 2 all motor cars take first and runner up, and 2 street fronts take semi finals points respectively... bit of a waiting game at this stage....

yeah, got nitrous on board now. only running a very small shot at the moment just for that bit extra power to ensure i get into the 14's to I qualify for the event. Ran a best MPH at heathcote of a touch under 94mph (in the left lane, the right lane reckons i was doing 111mph - aka it's wrong) so that's a good indication of the power there. my gearbox is still stuggling which I hope to have fixed shortly after minijam. a tune would be helpful as well as i've made a few changed which were very roughly tuned. the nitrous shot wasnt giving me full power either due to a very rich setup (in the 11:1 range). got a couple of extra goodies to go onboard for minijam too with the main bit being a fully customised exhaust header (replacing the hos temp thing i have there at the moment...well at least it served it's purpose)

still the trip was worth it. bagged a heap of points for this year's championship. should get 104 points from the trip - just as good as a round win

the box can't take the power through it so you're having to baby the shifting? or just breaking from extended stress from the past?

whens your next run at willowbank (other than minijam, thats at willowbank right?)? i'd come out to watch

twilightprotege
14-02-2008, 01:41 PM
dead synchros basically. my engine has done just over 120000k's and i've had many many trips down the 1/4, so it's all catching up to me. however i have all the parts at home to completely overhaul the box, i just need time (and money)

next event is minijam, and yes that's at willowbank. see http://www.sportcompact.net.au/round2-08.php

just some news for those who are unaware. pb's all day (and night) long at mini jam for the car.

did a best of 14.242 at ONLY 91.67mph...why only 91mph? i had slowed down significantly before the end of the track!

that was on a 14.25 dial in in the final, so unfortunately i broke out by 0.008 seconds.

still, a healthy bag of points for us, with the trip to wsid holding a chance to get in to the 13's to reclaim the worlds fastest non-turbo BJ astina/protege. i would have had the title back in the final if i hadnt backed off (the record is low 14.2's)

will post some pictures once i can find some good ones to put up here.

When are down at the WISD.

Track has been kind of reall good recently. a Mate ran 11.4 121mph- backing off in his R31.

it didn't 60 off the transbrake that well but still Ran straight as an arrow which is better then last time.

an 11.6 was hard it was manual then but it was skating durign the shifts.

Another friend ran his EG with his 1.8L and he found 2nd gear hooking up a lot better. Don't know what they have done but it's alot stronger across the track. in terms of grip.
