When fifty-year-old New Zealand resident Ken Brough - a self confessed petrol head - decided to take the drivetrain from a 90’s era Subaru WRX STi and fit it into an ATV shell, it is doubtful if anyone but a car enthusiast could understand his motivations.

What he has produced is one of the most impressive, unique and intoxicatingly beautiful sounding combustion creations ever created.

Dubbed the STiATV and weighing in at a feather-light 530kg, with a conservative power estimate upward of 200kW, it is certain to unnerve even the most hardened of drivers (riders?), albeit with the less than ideal 70/30 weight distribution.

Unfortunately despite his best efforts, Ken has been unable to have his creation road-registered by the New Zealand roads authority.

oops, it would have been fast fours, i haven't been getting autosalon for that long, i'll go check later. that would be such a rush to ride, looks a little too long to be nimble though, look how big the turning circle is in the video.

first time i've heard a atv with a blow off valve :)

heres the dedicated website
http://www.stiatv.co.nz/

apparently its putting out 170Kw, weights 550kg and remains AWD.

god i would love to ride that bad-boy

If I remember the article correctly he gave it to one of the top rally drivers to have a go at on a tarmac hill climb type stage in NZ. The dude was suitably impressed!! Another similar thing is the Peugot Quark.

i wonder if they tip over as easily as quad runners

i think that STi one would tend to sit down a lot because of the weight. it weights more than a normal quad. its pretty wide too, judging from how much of the lane it was taking up on the vid. the quark looks higher and narrower though, maybe you'd have issues with turning at speed there

as i recall from the article it wieghed quiet a bit, better the 600kgs, but was mental as anything, power to whieght better then twice a normal STI, and that's saying something. If i remember right, they couldn't find anyone crazy enough to actually give it some stick, universal response was this thing is too mental. So... go build a car that everyine is too afraid to drive... Bloody newzealanders.

they must have lightened it up, cause that 550kg is from the dude that built it. if you want to see someone give it some stick watch the vid, its not the full potential but that thing has balls
