Just renewed mine - and it's gone down from last year - even though i added the rebuilt engine/gearbox...oh, and the turbo setup LOL

$794 rating 1 protected with JC

i couldn't believe it - but apparently i've got so many mods that they just keep adding them without increasing the policy

so what are you paying?

model:
your age:

you get the idea...

You bastid!

I did a quote (several actually) that all placed a v6 BA hardtop in the "you must be nuts to want this car" category.

$1200 was the average.

Male, 28, ACT locale 3yrs on Rating 1 - zero claim history.

Bit rancid when the 'other' BA comes out at $850

mine not so bad, but I lost a lot of rating with the dratted rabbit incident....

So I am at 30-40% no claim bonus, not top rated anymore...
age? *ahem* bite me! over 29
model: standard BA 94 with alloys and cd player and cruise control

last year I paid $660 with Western QBE and am hoping it will drop a touch more this year......

We are going to add Aaron as a secondary driver so it will be interesting to see how that affects the costs and such, especially as he has a better rating as I do now!!!!!

Bloody RABBITS!!!!!! :x

Abraxas
04-09-2003, 11:06 PM
Here's two quotes I've had for a comparo. Both quotes are in my name, so i'm not a nominated driver claiming under my parents or anything.

1995 Ford Laser KJ Sedan.
My Age: 20
NCB: 40 or 45% (3 years)

Comprehensive NRMA Quote:
includes 16x6.5" wheels.
audio system
30mm lowering.
$2888.00 pa. (add $79.20 to this figure, divide by 12 to get monthly repayments).

Comprehensive JustCars Quote:
Includes 17s, 18's whatever's legal.
Audio System.
30-40mm lowering.
Sports exhaust.
other mods...
$1623.00 pa. (no monthly repayments :( )

Allianz, BudgetDirect, Shannons etc won't touch me cos I'm either too young or the car has too much in the ways of modifications. (BTW, my car doesnt' have wheels, lowering or a sports exhaust at the moment).

You 'old' folk have it easy!

'old'????

sheesh!

No respect!!

In my day..........

Hey sirex, have you got Third Party insurance only or something? When you say you will go for the Premium package, what does that give you? I thought nearly everyone here would have the comprehensive insurance, fire theft etc..... does anyone NOT have their vehicle fully comprehensively insured?

sirex
05-09-2003, 08:38 AM
Yeah, due to my age and financial situation when I bought the car I only opted for a comprehensive third party fire and thief option, which covers: fire, theft, repairs if uninsured driver crashes into me, illegal conversion of vehicle parts, all window cover. So I just have to drive safe and do not cause an accident, and I'm sweet!

However, now after revaluating the situation and getting a better job I believe I should upgrade to the premium package, and $95 per month isn't bad for somebody my age aye? Haha there was only two insurance companies that would insure me, everyone else cringed when they found out it was a V6 and I was 18

thats nuts! get a quote with just cars. say it's got suspension work/pod filter, otherwise they probably wont insure you as it's too standard, and the quote has to be better than that!

how the hell did you get yours so cheap Rupe

because the girl on the other end of the telephone was flirting with me!

nah, apparently because not many people have made claims lately, they're not charging the extra 20% that they normally would when you turbocharge an originally naturally aspirated car.

And because i've got more than 4-5 mods, they just mark me as 'unlimited mods' and my premium doesn't go up if i add anything else!

And it helps being 26 too, with no claims/rating 1/no loss of licence etc

Toyboy
05-09-2003, 10:51 AM
Yeah ive gone over the mods thing too, they told me the same thing that it wouldnt affect my insurance premium anymore no matter what i add :P
And the guy told me also what you said about if there wasnt many claims made that it would decrease,so hopefully no 1 will crash there Astinas that are insured with JustCar :D
You are aware that every mod has to be LEGAL on your car Rupe,if you have an accident and they find any of the mods to be defectable they void your policy

LOL yes i'm "aware" of that ;)

Toyboy

Ok,its just that they tell every1 that you can have unlimited mods, and people think cool unlimited mods, but they fail to realize that those mods have to be legal,or it voids the policy :P
Thats where people come unstuck when they make a claim

once i do my brake conversion (RX7 S6 front calipers + rotors) i'm going to get it all engineered. i've found a 'tame' engineer, so it's all good

BigMal
05-09-2003, 01:35 PM
Dan,
How the hell you going to get RX7
rotors to fit ?? They are 294mm
diameter and 67mm thick against ours
with 45.5mm thick. Better to use a 330mm x 45mm blank rotor used for
Lancer big brake conversions. Is also 22mm thick at the vented
section. Sure you will find the
4 piston callipers will foul the
wheels too.

let me know how you are doing it ??

Regards

Mal

the boys at Rank reckon they can do it with just a new bracket (more or less) - but nothing positive at this stage! so i'll keep you informed

BigMal
05-09-2003, 03:27 PM
Please do. Like I said being
thicker overall it will either foul
against the strut or force the
wheels out either would be bad.
A second option would be using a
Mitsubishi 3000gt rotors and 4 spots
which are 45mm thick and 300mm dia.
just machine off the mitsu logo.
Overall think the 330mm rotors would
be best.

cost: $600 Approx
company: RACV
model: 1996 1.8 Astina
your age: 22 (Rating 1)
mods: lowered *cough* 30mm *cough*, 15x6½, alloy strut brace and rear sway bar..

I used to pay $1600 with 50% no claim with NRMA when I was living in Bowral NSW.. and that was only with the wheels..

I will be converting to JCI when I get a few other things done.. like the 17x7" wheels for example.. The quote will be about 1G for Ballarat.. Not bad, considering the NSW premium.

On that I was paying $2300 on the first one, I totalled it in a not at fault accident with under 1000km on the clock. That was with AAMI and the amount of hassle I got out of them even though the police sided with me and the other guy admitted fault was unbelievable, took about a month to get this **** sorted out with constant arguments between me and my case worker, and the case worker and my car salesman and they finally got me my new car. I payed for a full years worth of insurance a week before i totalled the car, cost me $2300, then because my car was a write-off they didn't have to refund me any of my unsused premium, so I was down $2300, and another $1800 on the new Focus when it arrived, the other guy cost me a lot of money with a little mistake he made.

On the second one which I have now, insured with Just Car (which is AAMI anyways...) for $1800 a year.

My other car, a WS Fiesta, it was $2500 a year with AAMI for full comp, but I've put it under my parents name now that it doesn't get driven much because I have the Focus. It went from $2500 a year under my name, to $500 a year under Dad's.
