no more than 2.25 for an NA 1.8, really - either catback or full exhaust, going by what other people have said

Im using a 2.25inch exhaust on mine and actually have 2 resonators and a straight through muffler on the rear, and its still damn loud in the car
For a comprimise in power/sound i would suggest you only go thhe 2inch system dude, expecially if you add a straight through muffler, cause i actually lost bottom end power with my straight through 2.25in setup

but is it really worth upgrading at all then? As the standard system is 1 3/4...
Yeh the straight thru systems tend to be alot louder. Those cannon mufflers are designed for sound iirc as well as being less restrictive.
A 2 1/4" press bent with a chambered muffler should give a really good note and still provide enough back pressure to not have a negative effect on power. If its too loud, chuck in a resonator - or like theo... maybe 3 or 4 LOL
Keep in mind your future mods though. If you want to turbo the car down the track or build a cranking na motor, putting in a smaller system will require upgrading later so a bigger system to start with might be a better idea even it off u get an intial loss in power. Food for thought.

This is exactly why i never bothered getting even a cat-back, as i knew that i'd be going turbo in the future...
