I'm not sure about the RTA rules in NSW - but I'm sure that tinted side indicators would be a fail on the pinkslip.
And what noise are you refering to?

Depends on who's inspecting it. A lot of local mechanics will overlook things like tinted lights if you don't get trapped in the "******** net" when you're dealing with them.
Stinky runs Smoke-clear side indicators (E-coded and legal in Europe/Au) and hasn't had any Pink Slip problems with them. They're not dark tinited though.
Overall your Pink Slip checks shoudl be much the same as you shoudl make before driving any car.
* Do all the lights work as they should?
* Do the brakes work well given the age of the car? (the rules do not expect a Datto 120Y to stop like a 2007 Benz)
* Are the seatbelts OK
* Is the suspension/Steering/body intact?
* Is all the other safety equipment in the car OK
* The numbers match the paperwork...
Remember guys run a workshop to make $$ and they get stuff all for rego checks (ie it's worth more $$ to be working on someone elses car than checking that your's has 4 wheels and an engine), so if you go in and don't waste their time (ie book it in, be there early, be friendly and have the car presentable) you'd be fine.

Just have it looking decent and go to some place that isn't.
most rarely check more than the lights, its has tyres, pads still on brakes, and yeah about it.
Re the cost of it I dunno why but last time I went for one I did not book it in and called the giy out from under the lamborgini he was working on to do a pinky on my car and he did it. I was most surprised.
MY advise if you regularily get it checked out by someone who knows what they are doing just go to the shadiest place you can and you will be fine.
If you find one dodgy enough don't worry about noise last place I went didn't start the engine, nor care I had no driving lights (bulbs are hard to find and who needs them anyway).

Your in NSW - if you can't get Rego - well Leave the shire - Come to the real world
50% will do standard check - lights - tyres - brakes - They may or may not run your brakes test.
Now if you had a local garage who you always did your work - they proberly do it on the spot not even look. 90% of places do this in sydney. It's an advantage if you have a regular shop.
but yeah - Pink slip LOL in NSW it's joke
