my mate thought it looked like this

And i agree haha, luckily this will hopefully be completely different to what mazda is planning (if they really are planning a revival)
Exciting news, but i have the sinking feeling in my heart that it will never be better than the FD looks wise... but i'll take the engine thanks.

The rx-8 was never meant to be a replacement for the rx-7

Why is there a link to an Astra?
But yeah, RX-7's are mad cars. Although, it's like the R34, Mk4 Supra, S15 Silvia and the 3rdGen Rx-7; to me, they're just about perfect for each of their own pursuits. I can't see how a new model could really replace them. Having said that, I'm still glad they're trying to!

Link to the astra for styling comparison, i.e. i didn't like it that much, very angular for a car which had very smooth lines back in the FD days.
Yeah i don't mind that they're trying to replace it, at least they're trying. FD's are getting pretty cheap nowadays and the more rotary expertise happening the better.

Ahhh, I see. Yeah, the Astra's are weak-sauce. There is a definite shift back to boxy, straight line styling compared to the round, flowing stuff of the mid 90's days, but I spose thats just a natural progression of things. I was never a big fan of RX-7s until I went for a ride in my mates car the other day. Spirit R 300kW beast he just imported. That thing was just so light, nimble and revved out so fast. Phenomenal car. Looks the part too, with that FnF kit, CF bonnet and massive wing.

mmm red leather recaros and the bbs rims too...
ahhh spirit r! don't get me started, so hot ;)

car shapes always go from stage to stage...about every 20years it goes from rounded to square then back to rounded then back to square...its just peoples flavours...its best to have change else people will get bored and sick of them...

Haha, yeah. It's modified in a tasteful way. Hasn't just gone about destroying what makes it special. Anyways, cost him $50,000!!

HMM I'm more interesting the hybrid type where it's generator engine.
like most Deisel electric trains.
Mainly because you could see some really cool cars come out of the Low center of gravity available. No gear box just traction motors or maybe soem gears but electric power is so Juicy and Smooth ability of a rotary to Spin = HAPPY DAYS

Yeah that rotary hybrid was interesting. At low rpm's it generates electricity for the electric engine until it's in it's ideal rpm's, probably to make use of the instant torque and fuel inefficiencies. Combined with regenerative braking or something would be very cool.

New RX-7 = Smaller 2 seater /2 door version of the RX8. Same engine. Smaller lighter car, same power. Needs the same styling as current mazda models me thinks.

Supposedly the new rotary is the 16X, increased from the 13B.
800cc per rotor instead of the old 650cc per rotor? Dunno if it's to make up for the lack of forced induction or not, or if it will be an addition.

It's highly unlikley that with Emissions, You will ever see FI factory Rotary again. It's not impossible but not viable on current Fuels
I expect to se it on the Hydrogen powered models and the larger sized rotary gives off more torque but they originally found it harder to rev as hard.
The old 13A -= yes 13A was like this FWD too. but not transvers FWD.
But the fact mazda are already leasing hydrogen rotary powered RX-8 and Premecy /mazda 5

Higher displacement rotary engine (first increase in displacement per rotor in a long time) is being touted - i'd imagine this is to give the RX7 more power without the added expense/emissions related nonsense of boosting it.

I was just informed by my boss today that Mazda Jap. is NOT going to go ahead with a FI RX-7, francly im happy, with the way they designed the RX-8, a new RX-7 will destroy the roatry name altoether, but i do have to give it to mazda with the compliance of the RX-8 with the new emissions laws

The industry will always speculate on another Rx-7. A few years ago there was speculation of a new Rx-3.
