it is what happens when you run a BPT above 15psi for long periods of time without looking at the boost gauge, and doof doof is turned up too loud and cannot hear in it pinging it's little heart out until:-
the piston cracks up, then the rod start flicking around at 6000rpm, then it starts punching holes in everything it touches and itself then cracking into 4 little pieces in the process. the other 1/2 of the rod is still attached to the crank.
so sad. :(
1x hole in block
2x holes in sump
3x tears in metal protector thingo

LOL Oh my
HMMM
I can't say much seen similar pulled apart similar or just junked many.
At least so far it looks like the block sort of can be saved if you were desperate.

Block has 50 cent coin size hole in it also, so no good... But on a good note, turbo is fine. NO play, NO movement. Just needs a good hit with a air compressor to remove carbon build up.
I'm gonna try and make a bastard child of a BP engine family:-
BP26 head (polished n ported) - own
BP26 exhaust - own
VJ20 IHI turbo - own
BP block - people throw these away
BP crank - people throw these away (only if this crank is bent?)
B6T rods - $100-$150 2nd hand
4x Wiseco 60thou forged pistons - $895
VRS kit - $160
Gate's Timing Belt - $80
BA Astina tappet cover - own
Other stuff to look at:-
2x Flyin' Miata adjustable cam gears - $295 each
Haltech E6X or Wolf V500
Pulling this BPT down for experience before the NA build. Just have a looksee that what I'm doing before I get serious about the other build.

Interesting that it has...had a MSBP.

Oh but I've run into a problem. The head bolts and the lower/bottom plate bolts have these funny looking flower type heads??? I have nothing to undo those, grrr!

I always thought the oil pump was actually in the sump itself??? I don't see it there. Is it where the 10/12mm pipe with the filter/catcher on if goes into the block?

I have nothing to undo those, grrr! Those bolt heads stil have 6 points to them, so I suspect a regular multi-hex (dunno what they are called, but uno what I mean) would undo them...

The water pump is fine, no corrosion. So I'm gaining heaps of spares for the Blue car if need be.
Water pump
Oil pump
Tensioners
Belts
Bolts
Nuts
Oh when pulling off the bolts that hold the exhaust manifold against the head, 3 of the screws stayed tight with the bolts and unscrewed from the head. how do I overcome this issue? or just screw them back in later on?

Those head bolts can be undone with the right size SINGLE hex socket but using a proper socket will be more safe....the oil pump is on the side of the engine, where the timing belt and everything are, its kinda like a big water pump but a bigger housing...lol

With this you need to put em in a vice and unscrew the nuts off... then just put the studs back into the head and put on and tighten the nuts up later

Where can I get the correct hex/proper key socket from?
zappy65
10-12-2007, 06:10 PM
trade tools...places like that....just use a single hex...they work just as well...just make sure its the right size....I thought you had already completed a rebuild Ryan? am i mistaken???

I have expensive hex tools that have rounded side so not to strip the edges of hex bolts. I'll give then a go next weekend.

10-12-2007, 06:32 PM
those studs in the engine for the exhaust arnt stripped?? if so best bet is get a slightly bigger bolt not a stud, and then re thread the whole and put in bolts...looks better too...
project.r.racing
10-12-2007, 06:44 PM
nope they are not stripped. they are fine. they are just rusted to the bolt good and tight. and instead of unscrewing from the bolt, the whole nut and bolt unscrewed from the block.

next bit is to get the oil filter pipe out. The BPT one is 20mm longer than that BP version. For the fitment of the oil cooler I presume.
2 bolts fitted/locked tight against each other, then turn back one???

BPT oil filter pipe is the same lenght as BG BP
the filter pipe on the late model BA BP's are shorter , as they dont have a oil cooler
also if you canrt find another nut to tighten it in there
get a monkey wrench and just go hard on the lower part of the teeth...only need the top to middle half
