hey all,

I am going for some new springs and shocks for the BG Astina and im wondering what spring rates to have. I am going for lows from Lovell over KYB Excel-G.

I told Astro that i wanted 280lbs/in (5kg/mm) for the front and 230lbs/in (4.1kg/mm) for the rear?

Now, this is the ride i want:

-I dont want to be bouncing around!
-I want to have excelent steering response
-I want it to be firm and tourt but not kidney jarring
-I want to be able to stick into corners and have excelent braking performance with out much body roll or torque through the body
-I want to be able to go over speed bumps and not have a "King Super Low After Bounce" where my sump smacks the ground due to the spring allowing bounce!

I am not going to be using the vehicle for motorsport purposes at all, it will be street use and the occasional strapping. "I want a GTR Skyline with coilovers from HKS effect"

So, are the rates i told greg accurate or should they be higher/lower?

Thanks

Dan

call for what?
coilovers are essentially the coil over the shock with adjustment features..

ill make a phone call about coil overs for you...theres a mob i know who can make them for a BG...you said you want coilover feel...

anyone else got any opinions of the topic?

spring rates do not match each other, either do 5kg/3kg or 6.8kg/4.1. otherwise you have some fwd wiggle due to rears being overly stiffer than required.

also, i'd suggest going the 5/3 option as the other will gonna be too stiff for most people.

so, the 4.1 is too hard? and you would go 3?

what about 5 at the front?

yes...keep it in the same ratio...only been talked about few weeks ago in the KJ coilover topic...but 5 at the front and 3 at the back is the right ratio...

F = 280lbs. 5.0kg / R = 200lbs. 3.5kg would be optimum me thinkz

for a normal street weighted fwd car, something like the rears being 70% of the front is typical for performance springs / wanabe JGTC.

if you had a fwd where it was very front heavy or had the rear weight of the car removed, eg tool, spare, seats all gone, then maybe a 60% ratio...

alot of race fwd cars even use on 50% on the rear compared to the front.

i use 7.5kg/cm on the front, and 5.2kg/cm on the rear for my street fwd car. it's that 100/70 ratio as above

how do you find 7.5F and 5.2R RYRY?

how do you find 7.5F and 5.2R RYRY?with 35 aspect tyres - can you say bump? 18" wheels + 7.5kg fronts can get bumpy at time, but the suspenion and longer length of BA Astinas spends the forces out a bit. oh and the hard setting on my dampers adds 2.0kg again on top of that, so 9.5kg, can you say bump?

i don't have an issue with it though, most people will say its too stiff/bouncy - but my partner falls asleep in the car and the bumps do not affect her sleeping. if that give you a description of the stiffness for everyday life.

personally, i think the 5.0F / 3.5R combo is the way to go... if you feel the need to do stiffer, maybe 6.0F / 4.0R... but unless you had coilovers, i'd just get the right set now, as you cannot chop and change like coilvers can.

excelent.

well i wil have 16s with 45 or 50 aspect, most likely semi slicks too.

Does anyone know waht the sports low in the lovells are? or where you can find out?

most suspension mobs will custom make you a set to your specs for about $100 more per pair...

oh and get linear only springs, progressive stuff just mean unstability through corners at high speeds.

ahhhh, ok.

do they make them then and there or do they go through the company?

eg, do they make them out of their own steel or do they go to lovell or king and say i need this spec spring to suit this make and model?

thats how i was referring to as suspension mobs - lovells, kings, fulcrum etc
