to tell the truth mate, i wouldn't say the sp20s have much off the mark at the lights. for the 30 grand, i'd say you're better off getting an older jap import and fixing it up if you want to be fast. problem: the jap imports were NOT made to last. hence the cheap price. in japan, a car just gets too costly to run after 3 or 4 years, so cars over there are built to last exactly that amount of time to keep costs down. just my opinion.

thanx for that. by the way, i am from Rockhampton, QLD. Where do all of you fellas and ladies live. also, i absolutely love Bora Dincel's SP20. top job youve done on it. how much did the leather trim on the seats set you back.

WELCOME Birdman!

There is a list of performance mods that can be done to most Astina's throughout the range.

The SP20 is a NICE car... and if you want a fine example of a hot modded SP20, have a look at odd12c's car!!!

Very hot!!!

There is plenty you can do to and with these cars, but they are great cars all round. There are also many forum members with these cars like Kyra and Supergirl to name a few.......

They are fantastic cars!!!
Rummage around the different threads and have a read. And join in the different postings around the place.
Always remember though that just because of one or two peoples opinions, don't be swayed from your own ideas!!!
Always go with what you like and what you want ok?

As for racing at the lights, basically mate, you can make any car good for racing at the lights, you just gotta pick a car you like and work from there...... and if you like the sp20, then as Nike says: Just Do It!!!

Anyway, welcome again, and have FUN!!!

Yahoooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo!

G'day Birdman...
I bought my SP20 in April last year, and there is not much I could fault on it. Exterior looks great, interior is sensational, it handles very well for a FWD, and there is nigh on 100kw there. In today's terms, 100kw is sweet f' all, but how quick do you want to lose your license?! Bora and Rod's SP20's are great examples of what you can achieve with your SP20 with creativity.
Plenty more mods are popping up for these cars, and I don't think you are going to get cheaper deals than in the next couple of months, as the Mazda3 comes out in Jan.
Insurance is cheap in comparison to turbo 4's, reliability is never going to be a problem, and fuel economy is reasonable also.

Best of luck,
Bill

Yeah,
Your not only odd Rod, you are also Old Rod :P (Only by five years  )

Seriously though,
The most important thing about choosing a car is finding something that fits your groove.
My BA is basicly stock except for the nut behind the wheel, I enjoy taking myself into situations where I can improve my driving style (legal off road stuff).
I'm eagerly anticipating the new Mazda 3.

Hi Birdman!
I recently bought a new SP20 in June & I reckon they are great! I've ordered a K & N air filter for it which will probably be going in next week. Then, who know whats next - I'm thinking exhaust & Unichip. I'm still learning myself, but I've found the gang here are all really friendly & helpful. Cheers & enjoy your SP20!

G'Day Birdman!

Congrats on the black SP20! :D When do you get it? Mines in that Starry Blue I think its called. Anyway, about the K & N airfilter... Firstly you need to know, that even though I love cars & motor racing etc. I do not have a mechanical bone in my body. I only just know the difference between the engine & the boot. Seriously though, I went on the advise of a very good friend of mine who is an absolute grease monkey.
He's actually picking it up from me, but I'm fairly sure they are easy to find. Try more performance type places - not sure if Auto 1 / Supercheap keep them or not. Even so they may be able to point you in the right direction. Also found this info on the web: http://www.hicloneqld.com/kandn.htm - hope it helps! Cheers!

or just order it online......

go to www.autospeed.com which is where I ordered mine.

as I said, it's been delivered, installed, and my zoom zoom goes Vroom VROOM!

or you can go to any auto store, they prolly won't have the one you want in stock, but they can order it in. Be sure to check around for prices!
The stores like Autobarn are more expensive.
Even with delivery, my filter was at least $20 cheaper than any store I asked at here in ACT.

Cheers!

P.S. And ask Rupewrecht, he can get most things too...... he is the Astina parts porn king!!!

(sucked in Dan!)

and I only got this knowledge listening to people and reading posts on this site Birdman....

when I started here in April, I knew sweet FA about my car and improving the performance of it.

so be patient, and remember, as for dumb questions.....
I probably asked it first!

Cheers!
