Hey guys,

I have used the fancy calculators around the place and worked out, that to get some decent sized rims and low profile tyres and keep the speedo accuracy close to 100% I would be going for 195/45/R17 's on my 96 Astina Hartop.. is this correct assumption? if not what would be the better combo for accuracy and look?

Also Who lowers these beasts? How much does it cost?, how long does it take? How much should I get it lowered, so that it looks good but wont get mutilated on every speedhump and driveway or rub against the wheels?

I want to be able to take the car to place and say "I want this" and let them do it.. with not too much interaction from me... I just want to get it done and done correctly.

Any idea's guys??

I know the answers to these questions are probably crypticly littered all over this forum.. difficult to find out exactly what i need though without posing more questions.

Cheers

Hey Retro, that's a very hard tyre size combo to get (if not impossible). Have you looked at 205/40/17? It's probably worth jumping on a few tyre manufacturer websites and looking at the sizes they have, and most importantly, the load rating.

Cheers, Gav.

i'd recommend a 205/40/17 or even a 215/4017, as 99% of speedos read under the indicated speed.

Yeah, you can go +15mm (that means rounding down decimals if you have to ;)) in diameter and still be legal.
However if you have a BJ 1.8, don't ever go over the nominal diameter by much, as they are dead accurate (GPS tested).

do it properly first time.

hence get the right offsets and guard scrape wont be an issue,

get the right springs and shocks and bottoming out shouldn't be an issue, and be careful when you drive and you'll be fine.

Also, the 17x7 rims you want should be a +35 to +40 offset, so as to nicely fill the guards.

As for how to lower it - well that depends on your budget.

17" with 205/40/17 has left my speedo pretty much dead on. you can't get 195/45/17 with a correct load rating, they just don't make them.

who lowers them?
king springs
- low - 30-40mm drop
- super low - 60mm drop
whiteline/lovells
- control - 30-40mm
- flatout - 60mm
eibach
- ground control - 40-50mm

correct me if i'm wrong, i don't think the eibach one is right.

i don't think eiback would drop any more than 30mm

yeah eibach dont drop that much at all even in the V6 which is already 1 inch lower to begin with

EIBACH ground controls are height adjustable springs ;) so basically coil over spring spec...

thats what i thought bourbs, and i'd assume 17"s would be good for 40mm-50mm drop, more would be rediculous
