Well since everyone is looking for things like Spark plug leads, El guages, stickers, t-shirts, hats, air filters, bodykits, springs, and other astina/mazda things who would actually purchase these things online with their credit card. The site would be secure and so forth...

I just wanna know if its worth investing my time and money in starting one...

The benifit would be instead of looking round the net at **** sites and emailing and stuff Astingt.com shop would have things in stock and ship them off next day delivery...

ppl who would like to create their own astina specific merchandise would be able to sell their product online...[/color:post_uid0]

It would be good Tony, but how would you do it? And will there be enough sales to warrant the effort? If you are just going to list suppliers and prices etc, then cool, coz all the help possible is awesome. Or are you going to purchase direct from manufacturer and sell on the board. If so, how much profit? If you are going to make a bit of profit (which is fair enough considering you would be puting time into this) then people are still going to shop around for their own deal. If you are going to buy retail then post it on here again there is little point.

I think it is a great idea, but I'm just wondering about supply and logisitics!

Cheers

I think what Brad said is correct, unless Tony get's the stuff at cost direct from the manufacturers. That way he can put his own mark-up on it and possibly undercut most other retailers.

I'd certainly be interested in getting some K-Mac 2" lowering springs....

well im not sure brad... I was going to put 10% on top of what I get them for... there is a 2% transaction fee for credit card and cost $140 to setup and $430 a year... I would obviously get things from manufactuers cheaper because I would buy lots of 10 so the theory would be that it would be the same price or cheaper....

Thats why I am posting this vote... I obviously need some geniune interest from ppl... I was also going to ask some overseas guys as well...

I have to outlay a considerable amount of money and might not make any money back but it could be worthwhile for ppl like eric if he wants to sell his goods... Also the main thing is to sell stickers and merchandise instead of ppl getting their own made..[/color:post_uid0]

JynX
30-03-2003, 02:47 AM
Stickers and merchandise can be done pretty easily through CafePress (www.cafepress.com). The products are generally good qualitiy and are not terrible expensive ($25ish for a T-shirt). Doesnt cost anything to run the shop through them and your not required to purchase minimum amounts... good for clubs such as this.

Just a thought.[/color:post_uid0]

i dunno if the number of customers u would get is really worth warranting it. *Especially considering that you would need to at least provide for both current and BA models. And then theres the 4cyl/6cyl issues too. *
Perhaps the pre-94 model as well.

And if u were going to have things readily available for shipping, u would need to pay for storage too i imagine, have u considered this ?

I dont think i'd use it for merchandise, i cant really see myself wearing it. *But I would maybe purchase parts as i need them.

as for the other issues,
YES I trust Lantis :D
and YES i trust internet credit-card transactions. But being in Aus, u could maybe use cash/money-orders/money-transfers as well ?[/color:post_uid0]

Lantis

It sounds like a great idea, you could stock merchandise type products. Other items just order as you need them. Some suppliers might even ship direct to the customer.

Well this is why I posted it up here to see if anyone was interested and how many ppl...

I am taking all costs into account...
The idea would be to supplier to ship to the client

The costs are stupid for credit card processing...

I will leave this topic up until the end of the week... and then let you guys know my conclusion[/color:post_uid0]

Thats a crack up remark Sandyman. *Right after he joins the
priesthood. *How do you think Tony will fund his own mods.
Of cause this is a money making venture... Time is money.

Tony
Start small mate. *Screw the credit card for a while and use
direct deposits. *CC's are nowhere near as safe for the
supplier as you think. Hook up with a supplier for fibreglass
and make the basic stuff like mazdaspeed lips and your/my
spoiler, sideskirts, eyelids sp20 fronts etc. I think there aren't
enough members to make it real profitable eg how many will
want sideskirts & then they are only once off sales. *Maybe
drive the bulk buys eg you know we all want shifters. Ring
around do a deal and then take your 10% and as long as its
equal to what we would pay by ourselves its all good. Start
from there and it wont cost you out of your own pocket as
much.

Regards

I reckon start off with AstinaGT branded stuff (stickers, shirts, cards, nice silky smooth satin boxers <for Sandy> etc), and then go from there. Just my thoughts.

Ultimatley though, I don't have much say as I don't have a credit card! :([/color:post_uid0]

Of course I wanna make some money but my original idea was to put all modifying parts for us in one location so everyone can get them... the profit is more to cover my time to do it as mal said...

Yeah I might just start with merchandise, indicators and small stuff

Thanks mal for the advice[/color:post_uid0]

This thread has just popped up on my system even though it's old, it looks like another one of those strange abherations I've been getting with funky date issues (buggered code formatting and all).
But now it's showing up on my system, would you still be considering an online shop? It is likely that Andrew and I would be your first two local manufacturers aswell...

I think it's a good idea to have a comprehensive list of parts and costs in one place, but I'm not sure that a shop on AstinaGT.com will be profitable or even easy to break even. I think you will have trouble getting support from suppliers if you don't stock the items, but if you do stock items and sell with only 10% markup then even if you sell 9 of them you still haven't made up your outlay.

maybe you could arrange a discount with places like fibresports, ozeparts, autospeed, etc. "mention astinagt.com for a 5% discount on astina parts" or whatever. AGT.com adds them to a 'preferred supplier' list on this site, and maybe gets a kickback.

Alternatively, arrange regular or ongoing group buys - splash it across the front page of astinagt.com and really push it. When an item gets to a certain minimum number of people, that purchase becomes 'active' and everyone has a month to pay up, and you might get a few extra people in that month anyway which would help you turn a profit for bulk discount.

I don't mean to be so negative to the whole shop idea, but I don't want xedos to be left with a whole bunch of astina parts in twenty years time, when petrol based cars are declared illegal...

Dave.
