Been a while since my last post but I am back!
I am seriously considering an SP20 as the basis for a hot hatch and would like to know if cruise control was ever available as a factory option on either the manual or auto?
I really want cruise control on my next car, and some adverts I have seen for used SP20 has it listed, but I am yet to actually see one with cruise fitted. My feeling was it never was- is that correct?
I am tossing up between a Focus 3 dorr zetec (with cruise!) or an SP20. Hmmmm what to do......................I cant decide!
What would you guys prefer- SP20 or Focus Zetec?

Fucus?
Personally I am Mazda biased, so I say the Mazda.
My BA has cruise but it isn't factory.
I haven't seen much by way of bodykits and the like for the fucus but I haven't looked either.
As for the SP20, you can get plenty of bodykits like the Stealth kit etc.
So from a girls point of view (that's me by the way, LOL)...
Go for the Mazda!

If you were talking about a ST170 Focus, then i'd be going for that.
otherwise i'd be leaning towards the SP20 as dealers are doing some good deals as the Mazda3 is coming out soon

Mazda 3 is not due until 2004 unfortunately, but hopefully we will get a glimpse of it in the flesh at the motorshow.....

So they will not give much by way of discounts for a few months yet....
They are car dealers, bloodthirsty, sell your grandmother for a profit, sell their own grandmother for a profit, won't admit nothing, take your money, run out sale? what run out sale? car dealers, LOL
So make sure you go armed with garlic, wooden stake and holy water when speaking with them

UK = luke warm..... with their countries temperatures, nothing ever gets above luke warm LOL!!!
as for my cruise control, I can't tell you what it cost, I made the dealer throw it in for free!
And it is great, I have no complaints whatsoever!
Hasn't missed a beat.
Will ask Aaron nicely to put some info up about it, I don't know the technical info on it.
Cheers!

Dobbed in again.
From what I can tell the cruise in Kittys car is a fairly 'normal' aftermarket unit. It has a control unit, a vacuum motor/actuator and a control stalk.
Essentially what the aftermarket units do is tap into a few wires aroudn the car and then use the vacuum unit to actuate the throttle via a cable taking the place of your foot.
There's nothing wrong with these systems when they're good quality and properly installed. Yes vacuum is inferior to motorised units but I really don't think it matters that much.. A good vacuum unit will be every bit as good as a motorised one.
Oddly enough an Aussie company is one of the leaders in aftermarket cruise units.. I'd recommend their units any time...

Thanks for all the feedback- much appreciated
A drive impression of the Mazda 3 is on goauto.con.au this arvo, whilst for specs and features visit goauto's weekly newsletter where they reveal engine choices and power! Looks like the 2.3l is a goer!

didn't SP20 Chris (critter) say he had cruise control on his car?
I didn't think it was an option when i bought my one... call the dealers. if you are in melb, go to ringwood mazda last, as my mate Steve works there and will beat any price/extras the others throw in.
cheers,
Bill
I think after market motorised cruise control (fitted) is about $600  which is why i haven't had it fitted, but I haven't shopped around at all so i may just have found an expensive dealer :?
