Hi,
Just have a question about the KL engine (2.5).
I just bought a kl that was supposed to come out
of a MX6 (lower performance) DE i suppose, then
when i uncover it to fit it to my EUNOS 500 it has
a FORD tappet cover on it. I know that ford shared
the same engine in the TELSTAR and PROBE but
this engine was bought from an importer and states
on the receipt that it is a mazda engine (technicaly
right). The question is, is it a DE or ZE engine? From
my research and the technical help from this forum
i believe it to be a DE engine (oval intake ports, and
the DE was the world export engine that apparently
came out in the fords but the ZE didnt). Is this correct?

Thank you for any help.

Jap telstars also had Ze's in them only difference is cam cover.

latter model mazda's totally elimintaed both badges- where before it was screwed plate on it became in mould insert - or on some like the K -series it was also a stick on metal decal and also like alot latter on it was totally dropped.

THe difference is if it's Probe the motor has both US made and Jap parts on the RHD cars. Plus different Final drive ratio in the box.

Thanks Rodhog
My engine has the cam cover with the ford moulded badge
and has so far fitted in the car well. I changed the intake
manifold off the old engine as there was some difference
in the emission hosing and the throttle body (it made it
easier to hook everything back up in the engine bay)
the injectors were kept from the ford motor.Looking
at the intake manifold on both engines and taking into
consideration the advice posted by the Bat guy it would
seem that the 2L is a ze and the 2.5L is a DE.

Thanks again.:)
