View Full Version : Finally got Bonnet scoop for SP20
Hi Guys,
I finally got the bonnet scoop installed. I didn't get the hole cut in the bonnet because the guy that did it said that if i don't have a top mounted intercooler then i don't need it. I'll put up photos once i get them.
The hole isnt just for an intercooler. If you dont have a hole in the bonnet, the air has nowhere to go so the scoop can be ripped off the bonnet. Id ask for a hole regardless of his opinion.

Yeah im with jynx on this, its pointless even having it there without the hole there aswell, even if you dont have a top mount cooler you will be getting cooler air thrown into your engine bay to lower the temps

yeah, i agree with jynx also. i have seen a bonnet scoop ripped off because there was no hole. and trust me, it was not pretty.
the guy that it happened was absolutely fuming.

i tend to agree about the scoop - assuming it's a WRX style that does catch the air that well
i remember being at heathcote when the TRP (tony rigoli) 2 door WRX (was doing a few test runs late last year, and the scoop went flying off on the second run.
and it happened for the same reasoin your's would - just a stuck-on scoop as it had a front mount intercooler!
also, in the future, a scoop may not be required, so the need to source a new bonnet or plug the original hole goes too.
hope you like the look of the scoop, i'm sure it will look good with the rest of the car.
I don't need any air to get into the engine bay as there isn't any need for the extra cooling in my case. The scoop isn't a WRX style scoop, it's opening isn't that big (about 2cm x 20cm).
Also the scoop was mounted by not only using glue, it was also screwed down.

ah sweet then :D
pics would be cool :)
No Worries, i will try and get the pics A.S.A.P.
If your going to screw it in, you may as well cut an opening for the air to disperss as your gonna screw the bonnet anyway.
Your car. Our amusent when it flies off.

well guys 50mm x 200mm is a big enough area to catch wind at 110kmph on a still day not to mention if its windy
if it is on with sikaflex it will never come off
but i bet in time if you use the car a fair bit it will seperate thebonnet skin from the main frame i have seen this happen to many times over the years
you guys that live around wollongong mite remember the 600kg pool that tipped over a 50tonne crane onto the house because a little wind blew no-one would ever imagine that lousy bit off weight would bring down a massive crane like that
anyways point being i think u under estimate the force you are creating on ur bonnet
