I have a 1995 hardtop astina and was wondering how much approx it would be to get it painted black. current colour is rose i think.

Is the carmate bodykit anygood (yellow one)?? look good in the flesh? and is it good quality?

I also want to paint the dash, is this a hard thing to do? how would i do it?

Thanks

Chris

Heya Chris - welcome :)

because black shows up body defects like mad, you'd be looking at around $2k i'd imagine for a decent job that includes the door jambs, but not under the bonnet

i've never seen the carmate kit in the flesh, but from what the guys on here have said, Carmate kits are usually on the thin side

what area of the dash do you want to paint? just the drivers binnacle? I painted mine when i integrated my boost gauge pod and just gave it a light sand, undercoated it and then specklesprayed it in black to give it a standard finish look (as thats what i was after).

cheers
Dan

Thanks Dan,

So you wouldn't reccommend black. My colour is the same as yours or similar do you think it would look good with the carmate body kit in that colour??

As for the dash i have no idea what areas i want to paint, just in the planning stages now.

Once agian thanks for your help

well, it's not that i wouldn't recommend black, it just shows up little imperfectiions in the body more than other colors. probably only cost you a coupla hundred more than a different color anyway

i'm not sure how the carmate kit would look in Passion Rose! i'm not ken on the kkit so i've never really thought about it

here's my dash - i painted in gunmetal grey before i went back to the black

http://hrdwrbob.net/mca/uploads/rupewrecht/astina_dash_grey.jpg

thats the grey with the vents and switch areas left black. it lookked really good, but it was the same color as the rest of the HT interior so looked a bit lame.

and no probs- we're here to help lol

How did you get that part of the dash out? i looked for screws or other places where it could have been help in but couldn't find it.

it's pretty easy. remove the panel on the side of the dash, undo the screws and pop off the under dash trim, undo the screws either side of the steering column and then just pull the dash part forward.

you may have to remove the centre console too, as the dash has clips hehind the lower part of the DIN surrounds. undo the screws at the rear sides on the console bin, pop out the sides of the front of the console and lift over the handbrake. then undo the screws on the forward centre console bit and the popscrews on the sides in the footwell area. then pull it forward too.

thats all a bit rough and vague, but it'll give you a general idea

in a few days i'll put up a proper one on AGT

and if this appears on maz323f.co,uk anytime soon, i'm gonna stab someone! (not directed at you Chris)

Hey Dan,
Thought I made a post but isn't showing. You going to be
making modified dash's as I'd be interested. Would like the
2 5/8 on the window side and 2x2" on the radio side.

Let me know

Heya Mal
i thought about making a few more, but for my limited fibreglassing skills it's too much like hard work  so not atm, but maybe in the future!

Mine is perfect now.. I can see all the guages.. dont bother with guages on the right side... the steering wheel covers it up

Its red with a gold pearl... looks awesome and much easier to see out the window than silver...

wow - you dragged up an old thread from 2003 paperjuice !

the astina console is in 2 pieces - they meet at either side of the stereo.

It can be removed without taking off the steering wheel. You just drop the steering column down to the low position and that dash panel will come off over it

I don't recommend you try to remove a steering wheel with an airbag anyway.
