OK, i am thinking of getting a 8ft mini mal, i have my doubts that it will fit in my car, however a mate reckons his brother used to transport a 8ft6 mal in his Pulsar sedan and therefore i should be all good to put it in.
I have put the seat down and pulled out the measuring tape and got close to 7ft but that really isnt a indication as it doesnt show what angles i could put the beast in at.
Just wondering what the biggest surfboard you may have transported in your BJ hatch is?
Mods, if this thread has no replies in a few days please delete - no point taking up space on the forums with a thread with no reply.
Thanks:)

As above, i did the tape measure...
Roof racks are too expensive - i am considering getting some strap on pad things but just thought i'd see if anyone had put these in before.

I would think it would fit - just lay the front seat down and put the nose of the invisible board in the front footwell, and you should be fine.

I could only get the top bit of the seat to slope forward at about a 50 degree angle... how do i fold it down further?

lay teh seat back???

If I can fit a 6kg washing machine, 4 chairs and a glass table in an astina, u should be able to put a surfboard in the back :p

Na it will fit.. I have both my surfboard in there. I mini Mall as Well & just a another little one. You just have to push the front seat back, and put it in through the boot door and sit it on the passanger seat under the dash.

Cheers Fox

We moved an amazing amount of stuff in our BJ and cause it is the sedan, we have a little more length again.

Very true, one of my mates fiance was able to fit there 42" plasma into the back of the damned thing, took nearly 10mins to get out but i was impressed it fitted in the first place!

if you'll be surfing often i highly recommend investing in roof racks and surfboard tie-downs. if you're worried about doing 100 kmph and above... dont. as long as you have your board/s tied down properly, there is no problem. plus, having roof racks means you can now carry 2 boards (or more) on top and your mate in the passenger seat for company in the surf.

Well, confirmed, it does fit:)
It turned up last week and it has been transported in the Zoom 4 times now!
So to answer my question, Yep, an 8ft mal will fit in a BJ hatch!

Did you put it in like i said. Put down the Front seat and under the dash??

Yup, i took out the parcel shelf, folded the back seats forward and the front seat back, then put a towel over the front seat to keep it from gettin wax over it, placed it in from the boot and rested the nose in the front passenger bit in front of the glove box, and sat the rear of the board up on my sub box.
Works a treat - just not passenger friendly:D
