around midnight 2 nights ago, idecide to switch lanes, i suddently feel a huge bump on the driver side front tyre at first i thought it was a pot hole and what a pot hole, but i pulled over and had an inspection it was a brick on the middle of the road, so i moved the brick and drove home slowly the next day as i'm going to work, i suddenly feel a rumble on the tyre and it gets more consistant as i drive along it comes and goes as i accelerate, now i havnt gottin in under it yet i will tonight but what should i really look out for? any help will be greatly appreciated!
thanks.

My bet is your first answer most likely a buckled wheel the balance has been completely thrown out, remove the wheel in question and examine the inside rim

yeah the car will take a big hit pretty well, but if you have rims pull it off and check them. you've probably messed them up pretty good

yeah its a pain in the arse...also check your steering rack...just when you have the wheel off too try and wiggle the suspension a little bit back to front side to side and see if you can here any rattles or movement...

check wheel bearings too...

yup its a ball joint, it can rotate. But it should be firm

Thats the 'tie rod end' by the way

It should be so firm you can't move it.

best thing is up on stands wheel on and push the wheel both hand left right and pull left right to try and turn the wheels both and listen for a crack and and feel for the play.

Might be time to sought out a steering and suspension specialist

Booo that ruins the fun of having your car as a hobby ! :)

i just replaced my tie rod ends on the weekend.

The parts were about $20 each side. Ordered from Autobarn and arrived later the same day.

So long as you're careful to keep its location on the thread ( measure the distance from the end of the thread to the nut, and count the number of turns to be sure ) its not hard. The only hard part was removing the end from the hub ( whacking it with a hammer works well ) , and washing all the grease off my hands from under that bushing.

A 'specialist' would probably charge a few hundred $$ for the same job

Just a thought.

I don't think that rod end would cause a rumble noise.

Have you checked under the car a bit more ?

Have you jacked it up and spun the wheel to see if you can hear/feel the cause ?

ok the other day i was changing the shocks in my car and noticed this

http://i284.photobucket.com/albums/ll13/ozy323/wheeloff.jpg

now is this supposed to move around loosely???
its freaking me out?
and it s not the end closest to the wheel but the spot between the gear box and the wheel the strut that hold s it up? (not sure what its called?)

Yeah, CVs move around - they have to change length/move about because of the change in angles as you turn the steering wheel.

if you touch anything that relates to suspension/steering arms you should get an alignment afterwards!

but if the shaft is too long it will cause shuttering...

yeah it seems to be the only thing that i feel is causing the shudder in the car, i even rotated the wheels to see if it was the wheel, but same thing again. well at least i know where to look??
