iv recently just bought a mazda astina v6 323 94 model . it a great car but boy does it need some work aesthetically its beautifull and inside is emaculate its the engine that needs work , so here goes ,the work that needs done is new timing kit, fuel pump,a/c belt,p/s belt, new shock plates, and now the hold light comes on and off flashing ///// iv had it serviced and they have told me that it needs a new computer and its going to cost just 2000 dollars just for that alone ,, so to get to the point is this work worth the effort . taking into acount i am in love with this car

manual conversion

while thats getting done, do the belt and the water pump at the same time

looking around 2k, and you won't need a new trans computer for a manual :)

what are shock plates?

so it needs:
- new timing belt (complete kit)
- fuel pump
- ac and ps belts (would be done at the same time as the timing belt)

what do you mean by 'hold' light? $2000 for a new stock ecu? whats wrong with it? for $2000 you'd look at getting an aftermarket ecu

hold - its what happens with autos

when it is freaking out the hold button flashes.

its usually a computer issue, so getting a new trans computer is the fix. I think it runs a separate ECU and a seperate trans comp, in which case id suggest the conversion

well you'll want to do the fuel pump if its dying, you don't want to lean out. i'm still wondering what "shock plates" are?

i haven't ever had a dying auto tranny but i'd say you'd want to fix it as soon as possible

The auto on the V6 runs a Transmission Control Module (TCM) and the flashing HOLD lamp appears to be sending you a message. Unfortunately I don't have any reference to the error codes.
Call an auto trans specialist as they should have access to the codes, it may just need a little TLC from a specialist.
As for the rest and I hope you meant water pump and timing belts it's a job best left for a mechanic but it sounds as if the last one you spoke to may be a little greedy.

shock plates i think are those plastic things above the dampners

the trans?

i don't think so, it doesn't change gears automatically does it?
from memory what happens is you have to shift gears manually, so 1,2,3,D, or whatever the symbols may be

trans specialist should be your first stop, as cosmo suggested.
could be just a matter of some sensors or solenoids playing up.

if you mean the plastic strut top things i think you can get them for $20 from mazda, but they're a pain to install due to having to drop the strut out to put them in

There is a sensor that plays around with the hold function on a auto transaxle but i cant remember the name at this moment in time...

If Cosmo is reading...it goes directly onto the box housing and needs to be set with a tiny screw, it can be moved like a TPS...neutral switch....something along those lines but not that....

i no in the BG auto as soon as you unplug the speedo cable the hold button light would flash...theres not an issue with the connection there is it? i no yours is a BA so its all electronic... checked all fluids are good in the box?
