Hi All,

After having finished all the mods on my car, I went to Shannons thinking that I would get cover for what I valued the car at, but no go they will only insure up to 12K for my car.

Does anyone have any ideas? or good deals?

Nah mine is insured for more with Shannons, but it's a hell of a lot more modified. I think mine's 14k, but that's what i asked for. Realistically it's what it'd cost me to stuff my gear into another Hardtop haha

1st of all love that paint :D myn is insured for around that price wioth shannons as well. there is a point with mods u have to pass for them to raise how much the limit would b. mayb after you get your ICE it will b able for that much or more, but just remember not to count how much your paintjob was towards the insurance value of the car, lest its a pearlescent, indiresent, chrome or candy. thats different but ;)

It is a candy (red with orange flake).

my understandong of candy paint is that its a transluscent (semi seethru) paint of one color on a solid base of another colour(eg silver undercoat with red candy coat, giving a candy apple red), giving a deep, multy reflective, sometimes colourshifting ability. paint is only a few mm thick but it appears twice, myb even three times thicker as the light is let thru the translucive top coat (candy coat not the clear coat). red with orange flake is metalic (flake being the metalic part of it) but thats just my understanding, so i might b wrong

EDIT
ok so i found the wiki article here http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Metallic_paint
it is under the variation section where they explain the candy as well as flip/pearl paint
i seriusly hope that this clears things up, and i really hope that whoever painted this didnt charge you anything more than mayb 100$ extra cus thats what it costs for metal flakes which you mix in to the base paint. about 4 - 6 liters of base paint should do most mid sized cars (i assume as about 1.5 liters does 1 coat right?) and you add flakes to taste but i think no more than 100g/liter
and you can get about a kilo for 50 in any colour and size you want and once mixed in it goes on the car the same way as normal paint does, with a lacquer clearcoat on top.

but either way i really love the paint it looks really really good

Shannons are really your only go if you pass there requirments.

I personally don't bother insuring anything once market is below $10K. It's not worth the premium. If I payed my premiums every year on each car I have at full comp. I'd be able to buy in 5 years a new MX-5.

There are few others like I think VIGIL and coupel of others under written by other groups

GIO are now doing some custom insurance cover as well.

But having worked with the other side of it.
Most of the time. If it's a ASTINA or 323.
They just write it off. They don't care for fixing it.

See if oyu get hit in a BA hard enough only say 40km/h plus impact into the front wheel well. It's already on normal BA $8K repair - With out adding in your extras'

So $12K let along $14K is not enough.

I know this for fact. Now true - Go cash on the repairs use 2nd hand parts skimp on few things you can drop it.

but my own Wagon just did a full factory respray at $8K. No boody mods other then repairs to roof and antenna delete. the rear on it's own just the damage repair was $3K. but it's Full GO over. No skimp - So what some people may see as not right, In the end the insurance companys WILL WIN.
So do think about if it's worth handing over the money.

You might think what about a falcon GT - well it's little different when even old Ex -taxi shells are selling into the teens

remember it's only a 323- that's the way they see it.

not quite, my gf's dad was gonna respray his xr6's front bumper as it had minor paint damage. its a 'flip' colour, goes from green to dark purple. they wanted $250 a litre trade price. ouch

I am looking into Third Party Property with Fire & Theft option as well, and then saving in case of problems.

That's what I'm going to do when I purchase my car. Hopefully it will be an Astina 323 BA I've been eyeing :)

Oh and remember
When your not at fault If you can get the Cops involved and prove your side - EXCELLENT. Remember anyone hurt they ust do a report and turn up.

Plus If your not at fault. CLAIM ON THERE INSURANCE.
Find out the company keep all details - USE YOUR CAMERA PHONE. heaps of people forget they have them.

In the case of my old wagon. The driver/owner said it wasn't him or his car. - I had photo. The NRMA showed it in court, Seatlement with in seconds. It's one reason they will touch me.

Alot of people don't keep a list or reminder notice in cars. Alot will say it's women, Young MEN do the most stupid things. They are the ones who forget to get the information. They think they are covered and then find out. the Number plate is not enough and they have to pay both Excess.

Well... I'll be on my red P's so not sure if I'm allowed one of them?!

The one I've seen is Midnight Blue and it's a 4cyl... Very good condition. So I'm hopefully going to look at it on the weekend :)

Just signed up with AAMI for third party with fire and theft. They also accepted the mods of metallic paint, rims, tint, leather trim etc without costing any more, only $47 a month!
