Anyone ever heard of the 3 magic wires...
I heard that if your system is sucking up too much juice....insted of going out and changing your battery or alternator.....or buying a new one...you should change 3 magic wires...
The + wire from your alternator to your battery
The - wire from your battery to the car (chassis)
The - wire from the engine to the car (chassis)
I guess because the alternator is ground of on the engine you change the last wire. 4 Guage wire is fine, you can also add another wire insted of replacing it..Anyone ever done it?.....is it hard to do in an Astina?
havnt heard of '3 magic wires' but it makes sense anyway. The most common out of them i guess is the -ve wires from chassis to batt , & engine to chassis. Never heard of the alternator wire being replaced but it sounds liek a good idea !
The main reason ive heard of the engine ground wires being replaced is to increase performance slightly. better spark.
I'd say it would be pretty easy to do :)

yeah, if you do it for grounding, then its best to complete the circuit... i plan to do this weekend, in a BJ 1.6... will let you know how i go

i've upgraded mine. this is what i've replaced :
starter motor to +ve battery
fuse box to +ve battery
fuse box to alternator
-ve battery to ground (right beside battery)
-ve batter to ground right beside fuse box
driver side chassis to engine mount
this is what i've added :
driver side engine mount to throttle body
driver side valve cover to throttle body
middle valve cover to throttle body
pass side valve cover to throttle body
throttle body to -ve battery
looking at that it sounds like a lot. from the minor advantages that neg wire upgrades give, it think it would look too messy. possibly overkill
do u have a pic of the engine bay after u've put these wires in ?

you can hardly see them. they are hidden very well and they are black. i used 4ga wires.
have a look on www.protege5.com (when it's back up) and search for grounding wires. there's heaps of information there.
yes i know it's a lot of work for a little gain...but when you do it all yourself and it costs you next to nothing...
i guess i'm just happiest about my idle being smoother.

andy how much wire did you use and how many crimp terminals

i think i bought 5m of 4ga wire and 13 crimp terminals. the terminals on the starter motor, alternator and the 2 on the fuse box are those big battery terminal ones (like solid crimp terminals)
