Can anyone offer any advice on this little problem that I've got (no, with my Astina!!!!)

Basically, when I sit with the car in neutral, the engine rev's fine... clutch-in, fine... select a gear (any gear, with the clutch still in) and rev's drop...a lot. Sometimes sufficiently badly to stall the car. Shift it back out of gear, and the rev's jump up, and bounce up and down a couple of times before settling back to normal.

Also, most of the time (I'm not sure it isn't 100% of the time...testing is continuing...) this problem is negated when you switch the parking or headlights on...

It's not effected at all by my stereo either... If i switch that off, it makes no difference. When the car is cold the problem seems to be a lot less though...

I took it to Mazda, and they said it's not the computer... and that they couldn't really help me... I've also tried playing with the timing and it didn't make any difference (not that I really expected it too... but following ABC's lead, I wanted to see if the car went any better...)

Any ideas???

Mine sometimes does the same thing, when it is cold.

Look for switches near the clucth pdel or the gearbox. Could something as numbnutted as something that shorts out the electrical system when you depress the clucth....

Also check for usual suspects like fueling - could be a dead pump.... Get enough and pressure and fuel at no-load condition and it ****s itself with a greater requirement.

I think it has to do with the switch on the back of the clutch pedal. Sure the IAC is
supposed to up the revs for that same as with aircon or lights etc. The manual would
be a good place to check if you can get hold of one.
