Hey all

Ive just installed my CB Radio, and i dissassebmled the base of the antenna so that the antenna will fit in the car.

Does the antenna have to be earthed?

Because i am not getting any reception at all!!!!!

Im thinking that to reveive anyting, the antenna has to be grounded,

but without the (magnetic) base of the antenna stuck to the bonnet or roof, there is nothing for it to earth too.

Ami i right?

thanks

Yeah,
The antenna needs to be grounded, the body of your car actualy acts as with the antenna to send and recieve. Also if you relocate the antenna too far then you should dig out the SWR meter and re-tune it.
How often are you likely to use your CB and what range are you expecting to reach?

I have a SWR meter and I'm not afraid to use it

Yeah,
An earth strap from the antenna base to the chassis should set you straight.

I'd still SWR the antenna to reduce the refection back to the transmitter, (makes it last longer)
