anybody have any hints for Motorkhana? (project.r.racing?)

I've done two already, but they have been fairly simple ones.

the next one is on the 26th and is a bit more technical.

anyway, the main thing I need to learn is how to do a reverse throw, any hints?

also, I've changed my car setup this time, will be running 195/55/15 RE001 on the front, at ~35psi, and running 195/60/15 NCT5 at the rear at ~40psi

grass, dry tarmac or wet cement? i have competed on all surfaces.

my vbgarage has you tube vids on wet cement:-

also, cosmo has done a few grass motorkhanas.

As Ryan said I have a few Khanas under my belt.
Where is it and who's organising? The only one re-scheduled for the 26th (Group5 Round 4 Werribee) has been re-re-scheduled for December 14th.

I may enter or visit on the day.

it's dry polished cement.

it's not part of any championship, it's just a club one held by Ozmazda.com, but they've invited exe-crew and a couple of other club I think.

Held at Deca in Shepparton.

Cosmo, if you want to come drive I can give you the organiser's details, I think there's still 2-3 spots left.

I'll have a think about it.
If you're driving a FWD then remember that your handbrake and throttle effect different ends of the car and can be used at the same time. This lets you use the steering to piont your car in the right direction while completing a turn with the handbrake.
Motorkhana is a little like playing billiards, you plan each corner to exit ready for the next one.
If you can then walk the course first.
Put your diagram where you can see it easily, I tuck mine in over the speedo. You don't need a speedo in Motorkhana.

thanks cosmo, I'll remember those on the day.

also, change of plan, I'll be using my RE001 on all 4 wheels, since I failed to find another rim to put my NCT5s on. so the rear will have a bit more grip than I really wanted, but meh, I'll live.

Don't use race tyres, your goal isn't traction.

are you using the big concrete skidpan down there? or the other accross the bridge?

it's really quite difficult to give you any advice as there are many different techniques and styles, all depending on the surface and suspension set ups.

all i can suggest is not to get the car too sideways as you'll scrub the tyres and lose speed. and keep the motor in a good rev range to limit wheelspin but not bog the tyres on the surface also.

as for rear tyres, you could just hit the wreckers and purchase some ****ty old steelies with fubared rubber on it, maybe $30-$40 max.

will a deca driving instructor be present? if so, befriend him, use him as much as you can, get him in that passenger seat every second test. he/she'll improve your driving heaps.

get him to show you the correct way to sit, never push the steering wheel, only pull at it. always more/better steering control. get the instructor to show you what i mean. ask him/her to stay behind after the competition for some private practice. normally they will.

RE001 arent race tyres, they are streets. Bridgestone Adrenalin.

Ryan, it's the big concrete skidpan.

I dont think there will be any Deca instructors, but there are a few other competitors that are fairly experienced, so I'll chat with them.

I've got two more wrecking yards to look at for a wheel, hopefully one of them has a spare.

I've got plenty of tyres, I just need another rim. but nobody has a 15x6 with a 4x108 PCD.

not sure, I think all Porsches are 5stud.

4x108 is used on:

Ford Escort, Mondeo, Cougar, Fiesta
Peugeot 206 and some others
Saab old ones
Audi older ones

but yeah, it's a pretty random one

yes, I knew I forgot one in my list, how could I forget the Focus, that's where I got my wheels from.

it's not the new focus, the LR focus (2000-2005 I think) was 4x108
the current model Focus is coded LS and I think is 5x108 (5stud for certain)
