Who here loves those beeps! - How to get rid of em

hey all,
ive figured out a simple way of getting rid of the beeps which happen when u open a door with the keys in the ignition. all you have todo is look for the plunger type device which is on the doorframe of each door. keep the keys in the ignition and remove the screw which holds the plunger in place. at this point the noise should stop. this is because the plunger needs to be earthed in order to work. all i did at this point was get some black cardboard, pierce it with the pointy but of the screw then and the cardboard as a buffer between the screw and the doorframe. repeat this three more times Whullllah, no more friggen beeps!

oh ok, so the plunger (and interior lights) still actually works? that's cool. :)

i used to put gaffer tape to hold the plungers in whenever i needed the doors open while working on the car ;)

just went out and checked weather all the other lights in the car opperated as usual and they shure do. the next challenge is elimination the seatbelt beep, i think the one for the headlights is good though (ill be leaving that one alone.)

i dont get how the interior lights would still work. *I unscrew the plunger thingamees coz the tape would allways come off when working on the car.

unscrewing made the lights go off. which is what i wanted !!

i think leaving them like that may make my car alarm a bit less usefull anyway

Now the "headlights are still on" * -- beeeeeeeeeeeeeeep -- *I like. *almost left them on this morning coz the sun came up while I was driving. *good ol' annoying screech :)

didn't even remember to test this when i had my car in bits over the weekend - doh!

and it sounds like we'll have to start a vic astina club - or at least all meet up sometime :)

the seatbelt beeps should go off when you start the engine without the drivers side seatbelt clicked in. itll beep about 5 times then stop.

how many of us are in melbourne?

I wouldnt disconnect the door ones cause if you have an alarm system they may be hooked up and might not work correctly..

the seat belt one was my biggest annoyance.. its an easy one to fix as well

reach under your drivers seat.. you will feel a plug half way under.. unplug it... easy...

Hmm! interesting! i've never [b:post_uid0]ever[/b:post_uid0] had the seatbelt buzzer. maybe the previous owner disconnected it? i'll have to check... ??? :0

I had the beeping problem too. Whenever I work on my car, I have the stereo on, so ignition is on, and beeping starts when the door is open.

After sticking my head into the foot well, I finally found where the beeping comes from.

Remove the plastic kick panel near the accelerator pedal. Behind there is a white box, with a circuit board in it (about 5x15x1cm). Unplug and unscrew the box. Open up the box, and inside is a little white buzzer. Solder in a switch across the buzzer, and mount the switch to the outside of the box (or elsewhere in your car). Put the box back, and plug the wires back in. Now you can turn on and off the buzzer when you want.

Remember when mounting the switch, you need to be able to access it when the kick panel is back on. Tell you what, took ages to find the stupid little white thing.

why not just unscrew the door plunger switches while ur working ?? thats what i do!
it'll also stop the door lights from coming on ( if u have em ;) ) and therefore stop the battery from going flat if the car isnt running.

just remove the screw and they are disarmed.

i dunno if its already mentioned, but to disarm the seatbelt beep, just disconnect the white plug under the driver's seat. thats all there is to do!

Theres an easier way to remove that beeping noise guys :P The cowling that covers the ignition barrel,remove that and there will be a plastic connector plug under there specifically for that beeper :wink:
My mate hunted it down, cause while we were trying to install the stereo it wouldnt stop beeping,it gets damn anoying when doing an install that takes hours :evil:

I have never had seatbelt beep.

Door open beep VERY annoying, but usually I just put window down and close door... I don't work on anything in car that needs to leave the door open. If I am cleaning the car, using the vaccum I don't hear stereo anyway, if I am wiping down, sit in car and close door, until you need to do bottom of door, door sills and side of dash... the bit near seat belts you do sitting in back seat :D

Or am I just too lazy to fix the beep?

I just call it a female car, coz it's so BOSSY ~ beeep friggin' beeep beeep!

Another simple way to get rid of it is not to have the keys in the ignition with the door open!! LOL

OR just simply pull the keys out about a 1cm. Can't have anything on though, obviously......

I too have the seat belt warning. It happens if you turn the ignition to the ON or START position and you don't have the seatbelt in. The beeps are noticeably longer than if you just have the key in the ignition....

I just had a look, only one wire going to the switch. No beeps but no light either. If I was working on the car I would back the screw off a couple turns and tape the switch down.
I like the Idea though :)

Ahh, I'm suprised nobody has noticed this, but with the keys in the "ACC" position and the door open, it beeps non-stop.
Turn the key to the "On" position, and after 5 or so beeps saying "hey, you aint got no seatbelt on, dip****", there aren't no more beeps, sorted.

Point 1. If you unearth the plunger, then I am sure the door lights will not work - i will try to have a look on the w/e to confirm this.
if this is the case, then your since most alarms work via this method - your alarm would be useless...

Point 2. The seatbelt beeper is easy. One of the first things i removed from the car. Under the drivers seat you sill find some wire goingto the seatbelt cowling. Halfway along this wire is a plug. unplug it. no more beeps for the seatbelt reminder...
