Haha damn I can't make this one either! My friends and I have already organised to have a massive BBQ like we normally do, chilling out, eating kangaroo, drinking beers, having a swim, and (most importantly!) listening to the Hottest 100 on JJJ.

Though I'd gladly drive up on the Saturday and stay the night, then drive back Sunday, if that fits in.

was just looking at Google maps, as i said, im happy to come up for either night (maybe both if we can get cheap accommodation) although it would work well for me on Sunday night, i could stay with family in Sydney for Saturday.

I voted for a Sunday Lunch/Cruise somewhere on the Wharf area...

I'd be thinking of driving up to the area on the Saturday staying overnight, being up and awake for the Meet etc on Sunday.
Then Sunday arvo/evening heading back to Canberra.

If we meet at 10-ish do a short cruise to wherever we can eat, then look at cars some more and are done by 3-ish it all works out well.

Thoughts?

Sydney Folk?

I've stuck a post up in the ACT section for planning the Canberra contingent for this cruise... Early days but gotta start...
http://www.astinagt.com/forums/showthread.php?p=180448#post180448

Would a Sydney side like to take on the role of coordinating similar meet point ideas etc?

Anyone coming from North or Western areas should also step up?

I find the drive along the New England HWY is worth the travel. Lots of great scenery (and plenty of mediocre boring stuff too :p). I like the volcanic rock landscape somewhere around the Guyra Range. There's a big prawn and small Triceratops on the round trip too.

having criven from Canberra to Hervey Bay a few times and to the Gold Coast a heap of times, i can say i rember the prawn ... but have no recollection of the triceratops ... go figure .... then again, i'm not a tourist thing fan

The Triceratops (I think it's one of those) is on the New England HWY. But you have to do the round trip to see it and the prawn, ie: NE HWY southbound and Pacific HWY northbound, for instance. Oh, there is the Big Banana at Coffs Harbour too.

heeeey i remember the big bannana, i remember facepalming when mum tried to make it look like she was holding it up in a photo, and they had frozen bannanas on paddlepop sticks coated in chocolate

Depending on turn-out there may be a silly seat (passenger) you could jump into for the trip.

Kitty and I have had our basic plans change a little so we won't be taking an overnighter from Canberra.

Instead for us the trip will be Sunday one day run....

More details to come...

But? You're more than welcome! From the Canberra side we're planning to use the M7 for "ease" getting around Sydney but that doesn't exclude meeting up enroute and joining!

If anyone planning on joining us PMs a mobile number to me I'll try to send updates our our location so you can meet up without having to just "wait around" based on our guesstimates. (With a 450km trip it's pretty hard to be 100% right on timing).

A.

Aaron
16-01-2009, 08:53 PM
Sydn ey stop has now been factored in..... Using Thornleigh Maccas as the meet point as it's pretty much tradition...

Based on Thornleigh Maccas being about 300km from our start point and the fact we'll have one stop at least before getting there I would say 10:45 to 11amish at thornleigh Maccas.

Just PM Me a Mobile number and I'll make sure you get a warning as we're approaching (from the start of the M7 for example should give you something like 20-30 minutes notice)

The 2005 and 2006 Annual cruises (Newcastle is the former annual cruise destination) were awesome. In the 2nd piccy you can see the original gay auto OSP180, and a certain crime fighting super hero in the distance wearing his trademark maroon shorts and black singlet. :p
Sadly this is the first time in 4 years that I won't be attending any regular NSW cruises in my whole time here. :( But thanks for the piccies James, they bring back some great memories! :D

It worked out at 898km from Start point to Start point (roundtrip) for the Canberrans. I got about 8.7L/100km for the trip which is a Gort record :)

I took about 4 pics, boats on Newcastle Harbour and the parking voucher for the Honeysuckle preceinct carpark. So So exciting :)
