advice
Dont' do it .
okay now I said that
serious stuff
Have aim
Are you for just showing or are you a winner. Are you aiming for something.
My best advice is steal borrow steal is better.
build your own very stable and safe barrier. EG if it gets pushed over it won't scratch a car and it won't hurt people etc.
Set your car up - have mates to help you keep eye on it.
dont' get distracted by T&A. that's when your car will get damaged. They might have nice c cups or d cups but that little skirt as it rests on your bonnet and not your pants is killing the paint job.
I got called gay by a camera man for telling some tramps for possing on my mates Rx-7 bonnet. As I said to the dill "the amount of money it will cost me to fix that carbon fibre hood I could offer to each one and they would all bend over."
Don't get into the hype.
You want to set it up depending on how show worthy your car is.
Sometimes it's better as display car as part of a club.
I don't find autosalon anything interesting anymore, as I'm not a show type of guy. And I personally think show is wank job.
Having said that it's he who wanks the best wins the trophys.
look at the OSMANS cars over years, I remember all the way back to Freddo - all it was originally was green resprayed My 94 from the wreakers. Yet one set of number plates funky green paint - it's fast fours cover - hot shot car.
Now it's different level.
You just have to work out what level.

I have to say, reading one of Rodhog's posts is like reading surreal auto poetry. It's like some kind of zen for cars.

Tape off your stand, so people aren't squeezing between cars - and scratching yours.
Do not put cotton wool in your wheel arches as if you car is smoking up the tyres.
Do not take off a wheel to highlight your stock brakes, or put mirrors under your car to highliight your undetailed chassis
Put something under the car (carpet/cloth), but do it in a subtle color that complements your paint color, but doesn't overpower your car.

I don't know what to say to that.
But Rupe that Cottom wool stuff. I saw that at final battle 2001 or 2002 or sometime ago.
but I remember before that.
I saw a car it's paltes were Cloud9 or somthing it was blue had some air brush. can't remember muhc other then had that then - the WORD or DICTIONARY Wirting on bonnet Cloud 9 = and you know all the discritption etc
Anyway it was covered with Cottom wool wheels etc wheels were big chrome things.
but I remember someone saying it's like it's SMOKING IT UP.
Then next one I went too I think it was AREO or some BMW or RWD car had it like it was smoking it up and had some fake tyre tracks on the ground.
Oh but one thing too
IF you have alot of stuff on display does not hurt to have deep cycle battery you can take out each night and home and charge then refit next day so you can run all your Tv's and crap.

After going to a few in Adelaide my advice would be to keep it simple. When a car is nicely detailed and is a make that people can relate to and not just a show car kept in garage all year, then people are drawn to it.
If it is at the Showgrounds try your best not to be positioned in one of the corners of the building as your car will miss out on all the foot traffic.
From memory, most of my favourite cars over the years have been really simple, with well thought out mods. I remember a Subaru Forester one year that was all white, had a black carbon bonnet, black rims and had some subtle vinyl graphics (you may have seen it cruising around Adelaide). Out of all the 20 inch rims, bright orange paint jobs and cream leather this car was still my favourite.
Remember, there is also a price awarded for Driver's Attitude. Have fun and above all enjoy the experience.
