Hi guys,

I'm interested as to what the different 323's have in terms of red lines, if they have rev limiters and what their speedo goes up to.

Mine is a Lantis 2L V6

Redline 7250rpm
No rev limiter (I think someone has screwed with the ecu)
Speedo 180kmh
Not sure if there is a fuel cut off cos i have't gone fast enough.

What is yours like?[/color:post_uid9]

1.8L, redline is 7000rpm on the speedo, rev limiter cuts in at about ~7600rpms, only hit it by accident once...[/color:post_uid0]

BA 2L V6 Hatch.
Redline at 7000
Limiter at around 7250 ish. Hit it once in first gear round a round about (thought I was in second :p )

Car has been to 205 on the clock but was dark and the cats eyes on the road turned into one big blur and couldn't see much of what was coming so didn't push it further. Felt like it had some more to go though. :D[/color:post_uid0]

I regularly hit the the rev limiter in first.. I really need a shift light..

the difference is the my old motor used to die when I hit the rev limiter and the new motor just bounces there and backfires...

When I didnt have a cat I would just bounce it off the rev limiter and could shoot flames out my exhaust[/color:post_uid0]

i'm not quite sure about the rev limiter.. i think it is about 7000.... i have hit it a couple of times in first...by accident of course.
max speed...not sure... give me a few more months... 140 cruises though..[/color:post_uid0]

Well, my guess is the same for the revlimiter on the other 94-98 hatches. Speed wise, I've got to 175km/h, but had to back off because of a long sweeping and blind corner. *Hehee * :p * Fun fun fun..

ah yeah... my top speed is 235 on my speedo...

My speed is 5% out so at the 100 on my speedo it is actually 105 so when I am doing 200 i am really doing 210km/hr so in that theory I reckon my top speed is 245km/hr

those speeds were done in controlled conditions[/color:post_uid0]

the first time i drove mien, the limiter was set at about 8000...i floored at and the needle wnet that far around and i thought "hmm thats a bit far!" LOL

but i was hitting the limiter every time in first because it gets there so damned quickly! but i'm more used to it now that it's that little bit higher, and now i've been driving it longer[/color:post_uid0]

my shift light is set to 6000rpm as normal astina 1.8l have no power left to give after 6000rpm. redline IS 7000rpm but no point going all the way there as the car aint going anywhere, just gonna waste time going between 6000-7000 with no power to add...[/color:post_uid0]

You serious IZ-GOOD? What your power dies off at 6000RPM, Thats not right ???
I have the 1.8 DOHC Motor,my Tacho Redline is 7000RPM But the limiter doesnt cut in till 7600RPM :O
The spedo goes upto 240KPH but its never been there, yet :p
I found that on the OPTIMAX that i had power till 6800RPM,then i switched to SYNERGY8000,and was getting power upto 7200RPM ???

my engine doesnt cut off at 6000rpm, what i meant is there is no more power left after 6000rpm or 6500rpm (never really paid attention to it). my engine cuts out around 7500rpm with full exhaust air filter and optimax...
between 6500rpm to whatever your limit cuts off, there is no power gain (im sure of that). all you'll be getting is your engine reving hard but staying on the same speed... no more power.
i have run the car recently 0-100kph in second gear (redline both gears, no passenger)... :D (maybe this is because im running on 18s)*after that, took it to mech for a full tune-up.[/color:post_uid0]

v6 astina.

i dunno what the rev cutoff was but I know I've hit it.

since then, I've put a Apexi RSM which has a little feature which records ur top revs and speed + a few other things.

also lets u to change or turn off the rev and speed cutoff. Mazda's default speed enngine cutoff i believe was 180kph ??
They're both now set to 'off' :D

i dunno how , when or if its just an error, but its recorded that i've hit a top revs of 10.5. * ouch! :D

top speed i've hit so far was by accident and was 200kph. It was on the way to sydney.
I havnt actually tried to beat that yet. *maybe one day :;):

Top speed for me is 215km/h and it was me that gave up
not the car. Road was a bit bouncy and my shocks are
rooted so the car started to bounce around a bit so I gave
in. Car was at 6500rpm and still pulling. Think you will find
its the revs/gearing not the motor that puts a ceiling on
top speed with a BPT installed.

heya, i have a 97 astina/lantis and it red lines at 7 and i hit the revlimiter ONCE and it scared the **** out of me i didnt get a chance to look down and see what it was at on the tach... the speedo goes to 240 and i have been to 190 - 195 but i slowed down coz i came to a hill but it didnt feel like it would go much faster i think the tacho was about 6800 - 7000 when i was doin 190...

like izgood said about lack of power ... does anyone else find the astinas a bit doggy as in they dont get goin quick enough.. obviously some of yous do hence the turbo conversion... also i cant frickin snap 2nd gear, it ****s me to tears :(

Mine gets upto 180+ pretty quick for an atmo engine :) What i dont like with the standard BP engines is that they lack torque :([/color:post_uid0]

1995 2.0l V6 GT, checked out the limiter on the weekend, somewhere between 7,600 and 7,800, reline is at 7,000

as for the torque i'm hoping that a good induction kit should sort this and give me an extra few ft/lbs...

as for the power curves with most cars, once it hits peak power (around 6,400 rpm in the V6 i think) it will begin to drop again, however, my recollection is that it drops at much the same slope as it climbed and therefore even though its come off peak you will have much the same power at say 6,800 rpm than you did at say 6,000 (400 rpm either side of the peak value)...

the main difference is that obviously the power is decreasing at the right hand side of the graph and increasing on the left hand side..

so, assuming that your car will drop approx 800rpm by changing from 4th to 5th, take a look at the following scenarios...( again all speculation and heresay :;):)

1: rev to 6,400, upshift, revs drop to 5,600...big power drop from 6,400 to 5,600 but a lot of room to accelerate before power peaks again...

2: rev up to 6,800 rpm, upshift, revs drop to 6,000... no power difference between the two figures but less room to continue accelerating till peak value of 6,400 rpm...

3: rev to 7,000, upshift, revs drop to 6,200... big power gain from 7,000 to 6,200 but will hit peak almost immediately so not much good

so from this hopefully it is clear that there is a breakeven point whereby it is no longer beneficial to keep climbing... from my figures that point would be somewhere around scenario 2 but anywhere between 1 and 2 is probably better than moving on to 3...[/color:post_uid0]
