Howdy folks,

My mum got flagged down by a guy yesterday who offered her $500 for her number plate. It is nothing special and so she wants to sell it to him.

Any advice of things to avoid, ie is this guy some dodgy bastard?

PS, while I don't post I have still been reading this for a while. Hope everyone is well.

meet at RTA sell to him and get new plates there and then ... done ... do NOT do a plate swap

might be dodgy but that way she gets the money and they get no details of hers

if they are just regular/normal plates, then she cannot sell them anyway. as your local transport department owns them.
if she has personal plates, then yes she can sell them.

i spoke to r.t.a in nsw and its not legal to sell any plates in nsw as they always own them [ its not like qld ] i was offered $2000 for ODD-12C but i kept them as at that time they were new to me and dfvadr had not been created id sell them now though
i dont no how people can get around the selling there private plates
i even stated to the rta that it must be ok sell ,as there are hundreds advertised in nsw media all the time but they stated its not elligal to advertise. but it is to sell

i d say wat would happen is you'd pay the person to hand them in and apply for them straight away. only way i can see it working
