i currently have a 1990 astina with dead gear box and in need of engine rebuild that will all be done by myself, it has a pretty bad body and screwed suspension and some interior cosmetic defects, all in all it is crap

i just kneed an opinion weather it is worth doing the gearbox and engine and flog it off (cost to do the stuff $1100) and get another cheap car like a vn dunniedoor OR FIX it up and keep driving it untill the next problem arrises.
at the moment i think it is going cost just as much to do either but i dunno:( :(

I am Very frustrated broke and cant work due to stuffed knee

HELP!

fix it and keep it, these cars can go for a very long time and spend next to no fuel ;)

really? i found fuel to be as crap as a 5 speed commodore driven right.

my BG is running fine, and gets 7.5 on the highway, 9-11L/100km on mixed...

a 1.8 liter engine is getting 11l/100km combined?? how much do you floor it man? we have basically the same engine, and on the WORST week when i floor it with AC up hills i still only get 9.5L/100km and i consider that bad.. this week with a skidpad day and a drive up and down to gympy and back (200 km each way) i still got 7.5-8L/100km..

gympie trip would have been good for consumption. i av 450-500km for 42L fill up.

and thats with constant shifts between 3.5-4k and revs up to 5-6k during more interesting driving
