Hey,

I was going to go pick up my new wheels today, but i got called into work. My girlfriend, being the lovely girl she is, offered to pick them up for :)

So when i got home today from work, I was a little surprised to see the car sitting in the driveway with 1 wheel hanging off lol

As it turns out, she figured she would be helpful by fitting and cleaning the wheels for me, which was a great idea, except she didnt realize the wheels were multifit, and the bolts she got with the wheels were the wrong size.. im assuming they were for a 114.3 stud pattern.

so now i'm stuck with 4 ruined studs :) the threads been completely shaved off. Anyone know how hard it is to replace studs ? lol or is there a easy way to fix this?

cheers.

aww well it sounds like u have a lovely gf man, seriusly, its awesome shes interested in cars :D dont hold it against her about the nuts, its the shops fault for not giving you the right ones..
prolly the thread is a little different size. my guess is new hubs.. or go to wreckers and break the hubs there for bolts..

wow you're gf must be pretty strong to shave the whole thread off. nuts come in different thread types, you can get them from supercheap/tyre shops.

if its a rear wheel you can change the hub, probably the same with the front (never changed the front though)

The studs can be replaced WITHOUT replacing the hubs...lol

Take wheel off
Remove Caliper + Saddle and Rotor
Get a nice big hammer and hit the **** out of the studs...the front where the thread is...or was..lol
Get new studs and slide In straight
Hit the BACK!!! of the new stud until it is firm
Put a wheel nut on the new stud and get a ratchet
Do up the wheel nut until it is firmly in there (The way the old one was set)

DONE!!!

hahaha yeah i was confused myself. No idea how she managed it

But luckily I was able to find replacements from a local Wheel/tire shop, and i've already fitted them, wasnt as bad as I thought it would be. Just took a big solid whack lol like Dogo mention.

Ill take some pics with the new wheels soon :D

The issue was, that the rims came with 1.25" nuts, and the mazda needs 1.5" nuts lol lesson learned :D

Don't worry it's nothing as discribed.

I've had to remvoe one from one side due to snapping two on the other due to cross threaded nuts on flat tyre.

That god for floating discs and a decent tool kit in the boot.

Most mazdas are M12X1.5 thread pitch. but some cars are M12X1.25, in fact it's actually a overall better type to have fitted on higher load car. but as 5 stud on a 1200Kg is more then adaqute.

you can also get some specialised stud removeal tools varying in cost due to how easy or hard they are to use.

I normal use the easiest way. Use one of my special made tools. One I have is a very thick peice of metal with a 16mm hole in it I then put this on the back the hole approx -30mm deep covers the back of the stud using a simple screw type G- or C -clamp I wind in on it. it makes it so much easier.

Also night before with disc removed - spray WD40 onto them it will penitrate if soaked hard enoguh over night they just fall out sometimes.

Oh if your rears are hub type with disc hub carring the studs, better off buying a whole new unit - it's alot quicker and easier.
it's how I fixed my broken studs on the rear of my then Tx-5. supercheap on shelf matching pair.
