Was just thinking...would MX6 headlights be able to replace Astina Hardtop ones?

presumably the mounting points would be slightly different, but nothing a bracket cant fix...
you'd know, wouldn't you Cosmo? ;)

size would be the issue.. might look a little funny too but worth a try
Whats the big difference??? Only major diff I c is the blinker within the clear headlight section - but youve already done that...
so y bother?

Only thing I've looked at is the indicators, they look up side down.
I''m guessing you're talking about the GE MX6.

oh well, i've bitten the bullet and bought a set
spoken to a few places and they reckon there's slight differences, but nothing a hacksaw and some bog can't fix!
and at least i'll have some parking lights again!

and one of my headlight adjusters is broken anyway...buying these is still cheaper than a 2nd hand headlight!

Good luck Dan I like that look. They actually make
the twin headlight for the hatch in Japan have seen it
on a couple of cars.

headlights have irrived, and i'm fairly impressed. quality is pretty good, and it comes with all the wiring to connect straight up...to an mx6 ;)

once i mod the shape of them (they go a bit too far round the car and are different near the grille) they';ll be painted bodycolor. and maybe i'll finally get off my arse and make the taillights to match!

How close are the mounts?
It'd look interesting with the twin beam and standard parking lamps/indicators :P

the mounts are fairly different - the one on the 'inside' of the light is way too long, hence it sitting forward in the photo, but the ones on the top are closer. it'll be a case of fabricating some custom ones.
what i'm thinking is wring up both the headlights to be on at the same the time, having twin headlights as the more light i have the better!
and no mike, they're still sitting in the box they came in :)

well, had a bit of a go on the weekend.
mounts are completely different - doesnt look like i'll be using any of the original mounts (especially as i've cut two of them off! )
and the mx6 side lights are longer! annnnd the mx6 lights sit err 'straighter' to the front of the car.
but they're getting there. actually have them further progressed this pic
http://hrdwrbob.net/mca/uploads/rupewrecht/astina_headlight_test3.jpg
can i cut something ? pretty please ? ! :D
Rupewrecht

you could have them plastic welded then blended in with your front bar i reckon. u could also have the old indicator hole filled at the same time :) would look schmicker than it already does :)
cheers mike
BigBoyLemonade
07-01-2004, 06:48 PM
you cant plastic weld plastic into fibreglass but looking great dan!!!
pr1mo
07-01-2004, 06:53 PM
oh sorry tony. i assumed that both pieces were PC plastic. if the lights are fibreglass then i guess u could fibrebog but mmmm nah..... probarbly not worth the hassle
cheers mike

Nice  does the bonnet actually close yet or u still got lots of cuttin to do?
Rupewrecht
08-01-2004, 12:55 PM
nah, the lights are plastic. so i could get them made one piece,. but that just makes removal of bar/lights a big hassle. and i intend to get the indicator holes filled when i get a front lip made.
and yes it does close preperly - it's just not finished!
and boyd: no! we only do that to Hindis!

finally pulled these out do do a bit more work to them, and figured i'd wired them up and see how well they light up the road at night.
SOoo much better than the standard astina headlights!

they're a bit blue, but i dont mind them. they look cool at night, and at least i have parking lights again ;)
thinking i might make some eyelids for them to get rid of the bright spot where the LEDs are at the top of the light, too
they look really nice i like them. do they have a similar type for the 02 - 03 model astina's????
MrShadow
25-05-2004, 03:58 PM
Yo Dan,how they going? Do you think you'd be able to do a second pair?

Those lights are sweet as. Love the blue effect. Do you know if the lights can
be purchased by themselves I was thinking of replacing my low beam with a
HID style with a chrome ring but those look even better.

if you put your mind to it, it wouldn't be tooo hard to make, but would take a good amount of time to do
matt, for a different look you could paint your inside chrome black, looks very good, but its no projector thing

honestly not sure, but you can buy the same lights for civics for under $200USD which is bugger all at the moment. the mx6 ones were $280!

30-05-2004, 11:53 AM
where can you buy those lights from? the civic has similar shaped lights, just a bit bigger than the BJ

with you halo lights, are they fully flushed or do they still hang out abit. if they are a nice fit did it take awhile to fit them in???
Rupewrecht
04-03-2005, 12:19 PM
a fair bit of trimming is needed to get the body of the lights to fit properly, and to get the lights to the correct angle. and new brackets need to be made up to hold them in place
but they can be made to fit properly with a bit of effort
