Has anyone been able to come up with a decent way of modifying the cup holders? The factory ones are so big that a can or bottle of coke will fall out when I'm doing a decent take off!

The best I've been able to do is to line the holder with thick strips of rubber to make it a tighter fit.

Anyone have any good ideas?

i'd suggest getting a 2-3mm thick piece of rubber and sticking it to the bottom side of the cupholder bit (assuming there's room), then cutting a star pattern in the rubber bit below the cupholders. The rubber points of the 'star' will then keep a grip in the bottles when you push them thru.

it should work!

Buy bigger drinks!

I honestly think the cup holders are actually a tad small. I can't fit a Pump water bottle in there and there is no chance with Mizone water either.

I'd say cut some foam out to fit around the inside of the holders and use velcro/sticky tape to hold it in.

Plus, you should know better than taking off with drinks in the car!

There is no problem with taking off with open drinks as I only ever have bottles in my car. The problem is when a 600ml bottle of coke (mmmm caffine) decides during a sharp take off that it wants to reside in the back seat!

I've already solved the problem to an extent. I got some strips of foam (25mm x 3mm) with sticky backing and lined the holders with that. Now any soft drink bottle sits in there perfectly. Better than a standard one even as the bottles get wedged into the foam slightly which means they don't move around at all!

a bit tacky ... but if u trimmed a stubby holder to the correct height, would that work ?

maybe take off the bottom of the stubby holder (if it has one ) so that the drink can sit deeper in there

The foam that I used is essentially the same stuff that stubby holders are made from. I just went to a local rubber wholesaler and got a 1m long strip.... it looks fairly good, and once I trim the top edges no one would even notice the mod.

It is quite amusing. My SP20 is the only car with cup holders I have had which don't stop drinks falling over. I am not sure what else their research department thought they would be used for but they sure aren't any good for stopping cans or bottles falling over :)

i imported an aftermarket cupholder from the states. instead of having a lid the holders extend just above the lid height and i have no problems with drinks falling over. the only complaint i have is that they dont hold 2 litre coke bottles. gotta love the coke.

I was thinking of getting 2 black plastic stubby holders and then taking that trim out, cutting the bottom out of the original holders and then modifiying the stubby holders to slide over the round plastic mould! would need to measure how much room there is to fit it in and how much to cut of the stubby holders, but it looks like there is a bit of room underneath the original holders so it would make them a lot deeper but still the same in diameter so u can fit ur big slurpys!! Yeah! And being deeper the problem of drinks falling over would be fixed!

Will post pics in the future if i manage to get around to it!

IF they were serious, they wouldn't take soo long to get the ticket to you (from fixed speed cameras, I've heard it can take up to 3-4 months!). Yhe first thing every teacher learns is that for the greatest effect on future behaviour, rewards/punishement MUST come almost immediatley after the action. If somebody plays up, and you punish them a week later, they won't learn. Punish them straight away, and they learn. The same theory is used to train animals. Instant rewards for good behavious, instant punishment (or lack of reward) for bad/unwanted behaviour. Does the government know something about education they aren't passing onto teachers? I think not! They just want the revenue. It's not about saving lives, it's about $$$. That's my two cents.
