just a thought about how annoying death is, in the past 4 months we've had 2 cats and our dog pass away... now we have another kitty stuck in the strathfield emergency vet with a blood clot to the kidneys that he won't recover from, so unfortunately theres another family member gone.

Honestly anyone here with pets, whats your thoughts on pet foods? because recently we mostly feed our cats VIP (aka kangaroo mince in a tub) but im considering moving to a more real food, just getting actual meat, not storebought animals foods.

Just considering this because the majority of our pets have died from renal/blood/kidney issues, which could be food related, has stopped alot since we switched to the kanga meat, however the dry foods and tinned foods still cause alot of renal issues.

Back in 2004 we lost a total of 3 dogs, one died of old age, another my 6 week old puppy picked up parvo virus and was put on a drip overnight, sadly didn't make it. my other dog we got from the rspca and after having him for about 6 months we found out he had bad legs and they wanted some insane price to fix it and of course against our will we were force to give him back to a shelter:(

We have only ever given our dogs tinned food and dry food however we give them alot of scrapes from dinner so they get their veggies etc.

Aslong as your pets have a balanced diet they should be alright and exercise

DEATH, huh that's it! I was thinking of this very partition from life this afternoon. Call me Nurse Death he? I am a specialist, palliative Nurse (Div 1 Registered nurse). I am the last person you see. The advocate between Dr, Relative (NOK....next-of-kin) & YOU when your dying, be it cancer, trauma, or old age! So, death is my profession. I use morphine to make the journey more compatable & pain/distress -free.

Now, on the subject of animal deaths, I hate it!!! My wife has put up with her cat, guinea pigs, rabbit dying all in 1 year! It sux! If there's a God (which a designer had to design male & female & wack pleasure in there as well as bull**** as well....hehe), he does'nt mind death cause, it happens as sure as life boy! Are you prepared folks?

btw, I luv animals & think they're incredible, innocent creatures we run over now & then & don't really give a fluck! :o

Death is a part of life that sux but, hey, that's life......

what's that got nto do with it Ghoru (you must be psychic :p ). No, serious, I am a Nurse who is responsible for peoples comfort when in nthe dying stages. That's my main profession. I was seriously thinking about the pointlessness of death & the anguish people go through whether animals or humans. Sorry, it was kinda wierd but I have to deal with death in my job all the time. Death doesn't phase me it just annoys me whan it goes bad! I ran over a bloody rabbit on the way home the other night after a late evening shift, saw a kangaroo also been hit up further. I guess, makes you wonder about life a bit.

Agree with Ghoru with the cat food. My wife's cats always had whiskas & raw roo meat. Chris, kanga meat is probably the best you can do mate, keep it up! Babie (that was her oldest cats name) wouldn't eat bones & her teath rotted

I always fed my dogs on cooked roo meat & chicken carcases so they had real food not processed ****. They were always healthy. I would never give pets tin food though & you can't just give them dried food

We feed our cat Whiskas tinned food and raw kangaroo meat in the morning and at night, and she has a container of dry kibble that we top up during the day if she indicates she's hungry. I think she'd be about 5 years old now, never had any health issues to speak of. Her name's Hobie, and I'd only ever had goldfish before so I'm really happy that we got her:

We make our dog a dog casserole, which consists of; Frozen vegies, dog meat (from supermarket Fooked if i know what it actually is), pasta, water, and other odds and ends...

Naughty - I honestly couldn't do your job... That would fark me right up, I'd think.

you learn not to take it home, it's your job @ the end of the day, stressful as it can be. But you never get used to te senceless suffering many go through. Hard to reason that :(

Incidently, back to my wife's cat, it lived til' it was 12-13 years. Never a sick day in it's life yet, @ the end it had Thyroid condition & it's heart enlarged & was on medication. Got thin & slow til we had to put it down. My wife found that really hard to cope with, really hard! She already previously lost a young pure white cat (2-3 years old) to renal disease. My wife loves cats to death too but now she can't bare to own another because she can't handle them dying. Damn shame!

We feed our cats Science Diet dry food. They have a huge variety of makes including hairball treatment, ones with vitamins, etc. They love the stuff and the hairball food works a treat. We use tinned cat food, Whiskers or some other I can't think of but they love it. As for dog food, well... I don't have a dog but Pal was always a good option. Spend that extra amount and you notice real meat pieces, etc. However I don't know if that was really your problem or if you just have really bad luck. Sorry about your pets... I'm a big pet fan and find it hard to lose them.

we feed our pets whatever we eat + dry food, sometimes the sachets

the only thing they die from is lead poisoning to the head, (cheaper and instant)
only reason being we had 1 cat 4 kittens, cat got cancer removed but went mental (attacking people and the dog etc.. must have spread to brain) and we couldn't find homes for the kittens (shelter wont accept and charge a fee for gas) so we now have 1 cat (kept a kitten) and 1 dog (whos about 7yrs old)

oh and the cat feeds on the neighbors goldfish, but wont touch ours:D

hehe, yeah frankly i'm really morbid, especially from work, I love death and I'm not effected by it... until its with animals.

and yeah we had our old cat on the science diet dry stuff because he had alot of urinary tract issues (male cats have alot of issues since they have a smaller urethra, not really an issue until they get fatter and have bad diets though)

heh, and yeah all of our animals are strays or rescues from death row. The only storebought animal we have is the 10 year old siamese.

Yes if I was allowed I would have lots of "saved" animals in my home. I know a lady who owns a catery and she's got like 20 cats that our hers and then boards others when owners go away. You'd be suprised how many more she inherits when they are put there to board and then never come back to pick the cat up!! Sad :(

check the plants in your garden are safe. It could be that they're eating grass or something and either the plant is unsafe or the fertilizer or pesticides are unsafe

Sorry to hear of the loss of your pets. My family dog is getting really old and I'll be sad to see her go

There is nothing wrong with 3 cats.. the more cats the healthier and happier the household is :)

I have 2 now and they are so completely different from each other but I would love another kitten.. or I'm thinking of kidnapping my friends cat Whiskers because he's beautiful, however I think his young daughter might have something to say if I did!

Dogo has a good point, check the plants. All my cats are indoor cats so I don't have to worry about that problem, but I know that one plant in my garden is harmful so I wouldn't allow them outside even if they were allowed.

I live on the back of a Nature Reserve and the birds can be rare at times so cats aren't really allowed, unless indoor ;)

By "catty" you mean like "fish" because generally they want to show love just after they've been stuffing their face with cat food lol. I brush my cats so it minimises the fur everywhere.. :)
