So what do people here do? Currenty I'm b&w at the births deaths an marriages department in Brisbane. I process and approve extract and duplicate records from the archives of qld ( 30MILL+ -_- ). Fun stuff.

So what does everyone else do here for a living ?

I'm a Building Designer (no, not like an Architect). I usually do high rise multi-residential and commercial developments. Whereas Architects for the most part just do aesthetic design, (with the cooperation of other consultants) I take that design and make the building work so it can be built. I do a bit of aesthetic design work too, but I'd rather not, as Architects get paid more for that flowery stuff... :( :p

Sounds like a rather interesting (cough) job you have there Pattax :p Nah, to be honest I think that would interest me!

Gav, why don't you do an Architect course so you're entitled to that bit more money? :)

I'm a Recruitment Consultant for a company called People Resourcing in Newcastle, NSW. I've been here two and half years now and still going strong.

Some days I hate my job and other days I love it. Every year they send me to QLD to Eagle Farm Winter Race Day - this is the one thing the company does to get all Regional offices to catch up with HO in Brisbane. Fun fun!!

My job includes:
- Administration (phone calls, letters, reports, registrations, etc)
- Payroll (I make sure everyone of my candidates get paid every week - if I didn't, I wouldn't have an easy day!)
- Rehabilitation Coordinator (if you have injury, it goes through me as it's my job to get you back to work)
- Recruitment (filling positions for clients all over Australia)
- Archiving (of all aspects of the companies details)

So there you have it. I do alot of work for an office chick - that's what people like to call me!!! :o

It's actually pretty fun stuff. We work in a heritage listed building, so the basment floor is structured like a dungeon. The record archive is great. It dates back old books 200 years old; there are thousands of them. The bookshelfs are all on train tracks so it makes it interesting " calling a bookshelf " and watch it move to you. Downside is because of the sensitivity of the material of where we work our computer usage is scrutinized by th it department. They constantly watch our emails an Internet so to know not releasing info on people. Also means I have to use my iPhone for stuff like this. Makes it tricky

Ky_88
04-09-2009, 09:39 AM
Yeh I thought you might have access to really old records which is why I thought I'd enjoy it. Prone to a bit of history I am. I love doing family trees and these records could assist so many with this!

Good job you have an iPhone if you wan't to be naughty lol ;)

Fun stuff.I'm still trying to get a birth cert. from them for Jett. 10 months old and either BDM cannot find that he was born or they lose our paperwork. I think we are currently on our 4th attempt to get one.

I'm a Photography Department Supervisor at Australia Zoo. I handle staff, networking, printer systems and software, camera and accessories, sales etc.

Allows me to have access to alot of aminals that you'd not regularly see in life, and some seriously fun stuff like State Of Origin teams and V8/Indy Grid girls. :D

But also has it's down sides also, lack of staff or toursits blaming you for their own lack of organisational skills, and turning up to things late and missing out.

Best bet will to call the helpdesk. They could tell you the status of what's going on. I could look it up this minute but I value my job. Most likely you didn't get a j.p or commosioner of dec. to witness id. And if it wasn't payed for a priority it will be less time responsive going thru the mail dep. We get like 10k letters a day, in and out.

Many of my kind do! The problem with that is that I'm better suited at designing building solutions to make a building work, than I am at aesthetic design... I've had my hands full with a 15 storey building for a few months now, and it has had me addressing esthetic solutions several times anyhow. Maybe I will get a raise soon. :p

Catch up with, .............HO? :D

Job involves filing, scanning, auditing & assisting other area's of Loans Services as well as other area's of the bank in regards to documentation. It may sound like a cruisy job but it has its hairy moments, and am always training others within our area...

Been here 2 years :D Another good thing is that Im only 10mins drive from work here in Ipswich, so I dont have to contend with any highways :D

Oh well that makes sense. If you prefer one to the other, stick with it :) If you're happy in a job I say stay there. So many people hate their jobs and hate going to work each and every day. You should hint about the raise as I'm sure you deserve with the work you mentioned!

Dunno mate, I was really expecting a raise with the pickup in the industry and the bigger jobs coming, and the fact they are hiring someone new... I just found out that it's only the staff that bring in the bacon that aren't getting raises, the useless admins are getting raises of course...

I'm still selling off all my $#!T though, and planning to make a move. I dunno if I will end up renting or buying now is all. I still need to get away from where I am now.

A company called HPC (High Performance Coatings) made a ceramic heat proof coating back in the early 80s, and ever since then, any ceramic thermal coating gets called HPC coating. Kind of like Popper juice cartons, Nikko/Textar/Sharpy pens, etc... Anyhow, it's a ceramic based thermal compound put on metal somehow, and it comes in different colours, but always looks slightly metallic and semi gloss. A lot of powder coating companies are starting to delve into HPC coating now too. That's why I asked. :p
