So... bit of a late post. Last night around 10:30pm along Liverpool RD, livo I was riding my organ donor mobile when some lovely young chap on his red P's in a white BA with nice big chrome rims started tailgating me.

then proceeded to highbeam me and beep his horn and come within 1 metre of my rear wheel. Important to note, I was in the left hand lane with the right hand lane empty.

After about 1km of this I slowed down a bit to make them pass me, to wit I got a lovely thankful wave... oh sorry I mean a finger as he drove past, cannon blazing. *cough failed to indicate and was missing a P plate on the rear too*

Well it is liverpool area.

I had the same today- a Red BG chromes not a SP I think going slow onto the M4 join ramp and then after I pass it, Yes hard but shifting only at 6000rpm. He comes up in the right hand lane behind me and changing lanes like he wants to race me.
I'm in Station wagon, I only went past him because I join at the speed limit so there is no pushing in, you fill tha gaps that's how it's done. It's smooth and no issues. Not crawlling along at 70 km/h as everyone else is doing 90 or 100km/h.

Either-way. it's not new, I'll keep an eye out and spank him one, being a P-plater it won't be hard

Ahh...this brings back memories of my days on the ol crotch rockets........I had a guy many years ago in an integra being a f***wit tailgateing me on my bike, then flying past like he wanted to race. When he pulled up behind a line of cars at the lights, I rode down the middle and stuck out my foot and took his mirror off and made it to the front just in time for the light change. It may not be the right thing to do, but I bet he hasn't done it again without thinking of the possible consequences.

Lol Rodhog i fall into a lot of the categories you mentioned above, I'm a P plater and my car was bought by my parents, effectively it is mum's car as its in her name. However i stick to the rules the only time i have sped is to get away from slow drivers which are puting my life endanger, Like when they do 20km merging into a 100km or when they drive through woodford with a trailer load of beds which are not tied down.

You may want to try and remember that this forum doesn't just have males posting, but females also. Another point I'd like to make is that I too (like Rix) fall into at least one of those categories. Just because a P Plater has a nice car doesn't mean Mum and Dad bought it. I own my car.. I've owned BOTH of my cars because I work hard and save. I am one of those P Platers that is a stickler for the rules and does not go over the limit for the fear of losing my licence.

Gives me the s**ts when people group all P Platers in to the same category, when quite frankly, I don't want to be associated with those who do 190km in an 100km zone. I've witnessed a crash right in front of me because this one guy thought it would be fun to race his mate up the main road, in the wet. He could have injured me and my partner if I were not doing the speed limit and slowed down when I noticed what was going on.

Chris - It's P Platers like that, that give other responsible P Platers a bad name. I can't stand it.. Some people should not have been given a licence as they have no respect for the safety of others around them. If you want to be a c**k go ahead, but don't do it in public where others may get hurt! Hey I coped at my school " craziest driver of the year" End of high school award. Many people were shocked - moslty the other car owners drivers. But it's level thing. It's also what happens when you drive to school in the fastest car - don't wrap Vn and VP and other RWD cars around a pole.
It also helps when you let all the hot girls stand in your car outside the sunroof. And yes my hand was holding on to the steering wheel the otherone is up to your imgaination. I did it outside school. Again levels. I did it at slow pace.
now to me that was safer then racing to bondi beach with 5 other car loads of students. but amazingly most students at my school injured we FEMALE
one girl finished her HSC on cruches broken ankles and legs because she fell asleep at the wheel. They all did. they were all stoned. Lucky they only hit parked cars. but at 60km/h ?

I'm not saying it's all, I saying from my point of view it's a Majority, If I pull up at lights and don't see P-plater give it, I'm shocked. If I don't see them make silly mistakes.

my mates call me a crazy driver because of it, or i will take the outside lane when turning left onto a main road to get past old granny's etc...
1.) i take off quicker then them, and push it late at night/early morning in no traffic
2.) i corner quicker and can do a u turn in two or less movements (usually 1)
3.) i adjust to the parked cars. e.g. i will enter other lane in backstreets. touch center/lane line on main roads. then shift back to the center of the lane

however i don't speed, i don't try to get sideways, i don't yell at cops, i take care of my car and most importantly I KNOW WHEN TO PUSH and when not to + ive never done a burnout in my car (have when borrowed brothers commodore, but it had the power to do it easily)

and the forighn drivers i cant understand, my previous car was written off by an elderly Italian women who spoke in a thick accent. who turned right through a red light. (and i got partly at fault cause im a P plater and went through a amber light)

and the attitude is shocking, my friends think that if you're a good driver u wont crash. and cause i crashed i must be a crap driver (they have never even seen my driving - ironically he crashed that weekend, at least mine wasn't my fault). simply cause there parents haven't crashed in 17yrs or something. try explaining to a P plater whos parents tell them a good driver wont crash, that even if U do everything right, there's still other bastards on the road who don't, and if they make the environment u drive in. not u, u just adjust to suit it

oh and after my accident i started driving defensively, people had a go at me for reacting to traffic in side streets, or people that had to give way to me ETC.. unfortunately no person understands the dangers of the roads until someone else writes off you're car.

Heh, long rant which didn't make a lot of sense in some parts, but talking about P platers, it's not the class of license that defines a driving style, it's just the fact that there are drivers who do not deserve to be on the road, even on a push bike! Why is it police never catch these retards, and how did the RTA even give them licenses?!
When I was young, I was taught to drive on farms, riding tractors, paddy bashers, quad bikes, etc. Never needed a license on private properties, and could do any speed we deemed safe.
I finished year 12 in 2003, and in 2004 I decided to travel to Israel for a holiday so that's when I got my Learner's license in order to get my passport. Drove a couple of times but eventually the license expired. I am now on my second L's.
Got a professional instructor for manual earlier this year to get some practice for the P test. I have never, nor will ever, be a stupid driver. So please don't associate plates with bad drivers. Bad drivers == bad drivers. Simple as that. :p

well, i got my Ls at 16 and my P's at 16 and a half, and currently bieng 17 by your logic i shouldn't be driving, however it works in SA becuase at 16 the only people who can be bothered getting the hours and lessons etc. are those who like me are required to drive for family/freedom reasons. and those who are car enthusiasts and have driven on farms or raced before. these are usually the mature drivers ON the road because we value our license. others will wait till they need there license e.g. parents don't drive them everywhere. or get there L's but don't drive much or don't have lessons with an instructor

of course there are the few exceptions of people who see a license as a right not a privilege and are immature (commodore or old rwd cars like celica,sigma drivers) but thats all part of growing up, and they usually have fuel or parts cost and speeding fines to pay stopping them anyway. its like drinking though the irresponsible ones will be irresponsible no-matter their age.

problem is the best solutions to stop immature drivers impact the mature drivers heavily e.g. number of passengers means i cant take my young sisters to school etc.. curfew means people cant get to work, or i cant pick up mates when they drink (Mormons make good designated drivers)

and with the 4wd's A CHILD IS NOT AN EXCUSE. buy a tarago there's more room and its fuel efficient not to mention safer. if u drive near a school at pickup/drop off times u will know y i hate them. they turn the widest streets into 1 way traffic and its just plain dangerous when the children are 3 feet tall and running around. however i want one because i would use it for off road driving with mates, and tow the trailer (with motto on it).

I think a permit (proof of intended purpose e.g. farm use, trade etc..) should be required to own any 4wd (this will get rid of those stupid "cute" 4wds aimed at females for status cymbal's e.g. rav4, BMW x5 etc.. My astina has more ground clearance (no joke i compared the girls 4wds at school to it) the only exception is the Suzuki sierra and vitara as they are monsters off road, but unfortunately the majority are driven by young females as there cute small cars. nothing against females want cute small cars but try a corrola or barina they are made for you're purpose not a fake 4wd which lacks and 4wd function due to it being low to make it "safe" for you're pointless use of it.

last part of this rant, when my dad took his Toyota Parado for its first service the mechanics were impressed because it was the first one they had seen with mud all underneath from off road action (he uses it for work as a hydraulic engineer so travels to rural areas often as well as on site stuff)

I might repair histroic public transport as a hobby. But I hate public transport. It's like a Lepper convention or it's just terrible. Note - it's Sydney. Melbourne - Perth and QR's brisbane/gold coast services are nice.

True.. you have good and bad days. I know that on the day of my test I had a shocker due to my nerves. Forgot to turn off my indicator after changing lanes and perhaps waited just a little too long to turn as some points, but I passed. I think something needs to be done because there are TOO many bad drivers on the roads, seniors included. Should make a rule to re-test seniors once they hit 75 or something. Might make things a little safer!

i agree with u there ky, they should retest the seniors ability to drive, at least their senses and reflexes and perhaps put restrictions on their licence. the saddest story iv heard recently was a bride to be going shoping with her mum for a wedding dress that was rundown by a senior who was as blind as a bat, but he was never tested.. they should test them every 6 months to a year at least, cus males especially are too proud to go to a doctor, and if their vision fails most will not admit it or not admit how bad it is anyway, so they wont have correct prescription.. but what gould would it be putting a near blind 70+ year old in jail, that lived and had a full life, if they manslaughtered a 20 something year old person who had their whole life ahead of them.. (manslaughter should realy not be used as a term here as that implyes accidental murder, rather if the person was not fit to drive it should be full murder, just like if your drunk or high when you drive, you are wilingly putting others lives at risk..)
problem with p-platers having bad assiciation with their names is that its comon sense that they arent the most experienced drivers on the road, plus if they are teenagers, they might be one of the few wthin their group of friends to have a car, which makes them the driver, which means tht there is a car full of teens with little to no experience in driving and road safety being backseat drivers, and teens give in to peer pressure easily.. thats why p platers get such a bad rep.. changing the age of licencing wont do much, as even at 21 some ppl are very immature.. and those who are natural law breakers wont change at the age of 21, and if they are gonna drink and drive they will do so at any age..

In QLD you are not required to undertake an mandatory eye test, it is your responsibility to alter QLD transport of any medical conditions.
I believe that because it is a government service they should have to cross check your medical history before giving anyone a license. Cause as Tony said most men won't go to a doctor as its seen as being weak.

But with a Car you have YOU and people around who you can not control.

In sydney, two things I've seen increase since going back to driving daily 2-4 times week. And travellign same route I did roughly about 7-9 years ago and same time period - proberly about 15mins differene.

Lack of ability to react and think in the correct way. Leading to- Sitting in the middle of intersection ad blockign traffic when it changes direction.

And RED light running. It's massive, it's like oh it's red I still go.
yesterday - Okay it was bankstown ( sydney joke) but I got green and the other side 4 cars keep going on red.
I was driving a Hire car, I just drove into a gap I made, with horn on.
Not only did they go on red, they also had to slow for the car park entrance and yes I didn't hit anything due to well I guess that driver the 3rd out of the 4 - Reacting to the horn , Got out of the way. 4th one was alos honked at by others.

I have to admit it's mostly in sydney I see that crap with red-lights.
