As per subject....had a whopper of a smash on the Federal Highway near Canberra this morning (Happy New Year!). T-boned an old guy in a rent-a-Magna who failed to give way when leaving the Lake George lookout. I hit him at around 90km/h and turned the Astina into a short wheelbase version...
no one was seriously hurt and we got a free ride in an Ambulance back to Qbn Hospital (yay!). Now I have a funky neck brace to wear around :)

Guys and the gals, the Astinas are very crash-survivable, I'm literally living proof! Now I just have to decide what kind of car to buy next after 7 years of owning my little beast...Toyota Soarers are looking nice...

would post pics of the smash but don't have hosting space, be safe these holidays :)

Thanks for that Mick. Do you like the skid marks behind my car from the brake lock up? Haha :) Thinking about it now I should have got photos of inside my car, the force of the impact made the air con vents pop out of the dash and fly through the car.

The Magna doesn't look too bad in the photos but it's all twisted out of shape and the rear suspension was screwed, it will be an expensive fix if they decide to repair it.

I have to wait for the Astina to be officially assessed as a total loss but I can't see them repairing it...will find out start of next week, fingers crossed...

Damn, that's nice work... and the skid marks are even better! :) Glad to hear you're okay, and can at least have a laugh about it...

I'm definitely with Rod on this one... whatever car you decide to buy next should get a little shilouette (spelling?) of a Magna on the drivers door :)

And that front dent beats my front dent hands down!

Now I just need to track down the wreck after the insurance company get through with it, so I can grab the sunroof and maybe a parcel shelf... I don't know what's involved with this, can anyone offer any insight?

jj, I'm going to go to the place where the car is on Monday to get personal effects and paperwork out of it, might be able to grab the parcel shelf for you then. Unfortunately it has a pair of 6x9s in it and has cracked near one of the lugs that slide in near the back seat. Still better then no parcel shelf, let me know if you want it and I'll try grab it for you. The sunroof needs a respray (roof paint has faded badly), not sure if it would be worthwile getting. Once I find out what's happening to the car I'll ask the insurer what they are going to do with it. Could be an opportunity for someone to get a cheap SP interior in VGC if/when it's wrecked...and any other little hard to get pieces.

Re: Magna sillhouette...I'm doing up the template now! Lets rid the world of boring cars :)

If the shelf had 6 x 9's in it, then I'm not keen... the sunroof on the other hand... if it's faded then that's probably even better 'cause mine is too.

If you could let me know where it ends up that would be great!

I like your thinking, but your methods aren't the best :P

Ouch!!
That's a nasty job dude. Nice skid marks too.
Hopefully you've used all your bad luck for 2004.

93SP, glad to hear your ok and also reassured that my own BG will be able to handle a fair stack! Regarding selling bits off the car, I might be interested in the front seats (mine is the SOHC model=crappy seats)

Dang! That's terrible news about the Astina

Excellent work with the skid marks and picking out a Magna to put out of its misery. That's a fairly steep uphill section too!.... dumbass Magna drivers.

Hope the neck and everything works out ok.

Glad to hear you are ok... i thought for 90km/h, you'd be wearing you steering wheel and windshield, let alone a neck brace... best of luck with the new ride.

Bummer dude, good to hear you're all OK. I used to drive a Magna, but I'm glad I saw the light in the form of an Astina...

Why's the damage on the right of the magna, but your cars from the left? You spin him around or something?

93SP
02-01-2004, 06:14 PM
Yeah I spun him through 180 degrees. Hit him right rear first then ended up front left.

Sorry dude, I must have used up all the Astina SP luck going around when i dodged one of those little suzuki 4wd's running a red light yesterday morning :P oh well good to see you are ok and thanks for removing another manga from the road! Better luck with your next car (maybe a ralli-art magna :P )

Most important is you are OK, some New Year's welcome, it only gets better after this I guess.

The safety cell did its job well.

As above, don't go to the "dark side"......Toyota makes appliances, not cars.

Mazda makes "positive life experiences", a run-out SP20 has to be a spesh. :)

My Astina is still for sale, it'd be a awesome base to work on if you were going to do a turbo conversion. Everything is already done to it, just needs implant and maybe leather interior.
