I am currently installing a PS2 into my SP20. I have installed the inverter already. I have a problem with the picture and sound quality though. when using the PS2 through a normal house power point the picture and sound is perfect, but once I switch the PS2 over to the inverter lines start to appear on the screen and the sound gets slightly crackly. Therefore the problem is with the power supply and not the A/V connections.

Someone suggested to open the PS2 and connect a cable to the chassis of the PS2 and then ground it to the chassis of the car. He said that it fixed his problems. But someone else then came out and said not to do this because grounding a 240V appliance to the chassis of a car is not a good idea.

What does everyone think, any other ideas.

Thanks.

What sort of inverter did you buy?

You can actually mod the PS2 to run directly off 12V.

I bought a 150W 240V inverter from Dick Smith.

I actually saw that document before, but dismissed it because i didn't think i could manage to make the modifications. I just had another look at it, and i didn't understand a thing. Can anyone understan it, and are those parts easy to get here (maybe Jaycar).

Parts are easy to get. If you're not happy doing the work yourself you could ask your local TV repair shop if they will do it for you. Should be lots cheeper than an inverter.

What gauge wire did you use.

Grounding the inverter to the battery or the chassis is no different as the battery is ground to the chassis anyway. Try increasing the gauge of the ground and grounding on a bit of bare chassis relatively close to the unit.

Failing that, I would look at getting a ground loop isolator which should reduce the "noise" you are seeing.
