Travelling home on the M2 tonight I got pulled over for a random inspection. They didn't like the fact that I had coil-overs and a turbo installed. They didn't give me a fine but gave me a defect notice and attached a yellow sticker to my car. Now, how does this all work. Can I just take the sticker off and get the engineering certificates later. I do realise that if pulled over again I could get into more trouble, but if that was to happen would they just go through the same routine as tonight or would they know that I had been given a defect before and not fixed it, even though I had removed all evidence of the previous defect. I am prepared to get all the needed certificates, but I can't do it now and I do not want to stop driving my car until that happens.

Also, does anyone know any Engineers in the Sydney area that can certify the defects without too much hassle?

Dont remove the sticker yourself, it has to be removed by an Authorised agent. If you get caught driving a defected car after the date on the defect notice you get hit with mega fines and you can even get the car impounded.

The defect is listed against your RTA records so every copper knows you have been defected whether you have a sticker or not. Read the Terms of the defect notice, normally they give you x days to drive the car to have the defect lifted. After that your meant to have the car towed to and from the workshops untill the defect is removed.

Hope the car is tuned well as they will probably put you over the pits and send you down to the EPA. Should be a barrell of fun for you.

Let us know how you go, as I will be needing engineering services soon as well and will be interested to know the process it goes through.
