Ok, so its not an astina :p but ive been dieing for one for the past 12 months, and i have finally found one. It is fully stripped, with everything original, just no engine. Me and the old owner will be rebuilding it over the next 6 months or so and hopefully have it all running with a bridgy 12a by the end of the year :)

Havent got any photos, as there isnt really much to show. The body and chassis are dead straight, with only a small amount of rust in the front of the chassis rails. The plan is to paint it gloss black, with a matt black engine bay and a red and black leather interior. It isnt gunna be a show car, but it will definately be a step up from the BG haha.

Will try and keep this page updated as much as i can for those that are keen on seeing an old car revived :)

I'm keen  Have mulled over getting one for years. However, I was considering a turboed example & the cons were a bit much for me. Especially if used as a daily. Careful research pointed out the dramas that can be had with FI rotars. I also was recently looking @ a Cosmo with twins on a 13B. The already stressed rotary with 2 turbos hanging off it......dunno? Think I would go non-turbo if I went for a rotary.

Have you considered going with a 13b? Or do you wanna keep it original format? Btw, pic or two wouldn't hurt lol keen keen keen :)

since when??? 13b's are only a 1300cc engine and are concidered a 4 cylinder car..

yes go NA all the way. me and my mate have a project rx7 series 1 too. it has a 13b in it. which came out if a series 5 and the gear box too. it sounds mine. :D lol if i need any info don't hesitate to ask :)

mat, the s1 rx7 only came in 12a form, a 132 would be considered an engine conversion, which u cant not have on your p's ;)

tru. but the series 2 or 3 i think comes with a 13b. lol

All incorrect :p im limited to a twin rotor, with a displacement limited to 1148cc, and no turbo. 12A will be till i get off my p's, then depending on coin, either a 20B monster port or a 13B with a huge snail hanging off it will be dropped in.

@ Naughtylilgt, a well built rotary can last a long time, but depending on your budget, not really considered a daily as they are thirsty and when not maintained they will just be a headache..

And ill upload some pics as she sits right now in a moment :)

Only SA Rx-7 (series I, II, III) I can remember with a factory 13B was the GSL SE from the US and that was an RE-Super Injection (6-port EFI) 125kw from memory.
Good thing about 12As is that they spin a lot faster than 13Bs.

Yea thats the one cosmo. Aus never got a domestic version with a 13b, nor a 12aT

Actually, this is a misconception, since they are only 1.3L but have 6 combustion chambers, NSW and VIC class them as a 6cyl which is technically correct.

12a's are a weapon with the correct setup and tuning...

I have just finished putting together my mates 13B turbo and it goes really well...cant stress enough..GET A LIGHTENED FLYWHEEL!!!

There are light flywheels and light flywheels. I believe mine was something in the order of 4.5Kg and was too light. It was stall or spin until I put in the KAZZ 1.5 LSD.
On diffs the series I and II had thinner axles than the series III and different spider gears as a result. Series III had 113.4 x 4 not 100 x 4 stud spacing.

Just an update, started cleaning up the engine bay and putty-ing and priming it. Plus i bought these rims

Nothing above 15s on the series 1, 2 or 3 IMO tyres actualy look good on them. 13 x 7 would be better though ;)

Chrome Moly flys are bit heavier than the aluminium ones & alleviate the associated probs' found with the Alum' ones, esp' on smaller 4 banger engines such as our Mazda fiends! Like the one Sir Gav has now  Best of both worlds. FTAflys! :D

Mine was steel, 12A diamater and the clutch plate had splines for the series IV box.

Back on wheels, this is what a series 1 should look like IMO.

I havn't seen Miles in a few years but he builds a wicked rotor.

gotta love the old school bathurst globes, nearly bought a set for my old gemmy :D

those super light wheels will look trick in a a nice gunmetal grey, have you thought about what colour you want to go with on the car?

you never cease to amaze me Cosmo. That's one friggin light steel fly mate  The 323's are more like 8.5-9kgs stock. Perhaps the rotory's are thinner? Anyway, full points for the heads up. Thanks. Also, to think those globes have been around since 1970 @ least ;)

Must admit that I needed a rear counterweight from an auto, Mazda cast these into manual flys and the 12As have a small diameter clutch but this setup needed the LSD to control the 'spin or stall' characteristics.

quite clever than really. These rotaries are certainly full of surprises

Either a gunmetal grey or black, swaying towards the gunmetal as to paint it black there will be a fair bit more prep work involved.

13's will be on till i find something nicer, but for $150 i think they will suit :)

And that RX7 above, IMO has too much fat. Mine wont have the batman wing, and not planning on flares at this stage. Haha
