so yeah as the title state's im gonna try n do some led taillights

so far picked up a pack of 100pc led's and resitors from jaycar(i got the clear one's not the red but still the same price)
http://i653.photobucket.com/albums/uu251/islander81/01022010516.jpg
http://i653.photobucket.com/albums/uu251/islander81/01022010515.jpg
then found some trailer lights in kmart looks good saved me some time on soldering
http://i653.photobucket.com/albums/uu251/islander81/03022010518.jpg
http://i653.photobucket.com/albums/uu251/islander81/03022010519.jpg
now i got another trailer light lense just to spead the illumination of the led's and i picked up some light fittings from bunnings just to house the lense in and if im happy with it i'll get epoxy for that sold seal
http://i653.photobucket.com/albums/uu251/islander81/03022010520.jpg
then put part b over part a like so
http://i653.photobucket.com/albums/uu251/islander81/03022010521.jpg
and you get this
http://i653.photobucket.com/albums/uu251/islander81/03022010522.jpg
now the reason why i got that silver light fitting is so i can do this
http://i653.photobucket.com/albums/uu251/islander81/hondacivic92.jpg
and heres the led diagramme for all to see, this is so that the car thinks its a real globe.
http://i653.photobucket.com/albums/uu251/islander81/leddiagramme.jpg
then after that i'll make a casing for the unit to protect it sooooo
thats 1 done five more to go.....

Wow, props to you for doing this project!

One question, how are you going to have them protected?

Have you thought about doing something like this, moreso with mounting your lights and filling the rest?

was just thinking of putting a clear perspex lense in like the altezzer taillights so simaler to the green bg but pushed in more so i can put the perspex in which would be glued to the taillight housing

ok went back to jaycar for more leds(3mm) + resistors n holders so all up bout $23 and thats for
20x3mm red led(clear lense),3pks of 8 resistors n 20pk of plastic holders and i think thats enuff for 1 light, for the parkers, but wont be doing it till 2moro starting work soon ffs!

ok just drilled 3mm holes into the silver fitting for the 3mm led's (didnt need those holders, led's didnt stick out further) will superglue them on later then more soldering of the resistors
so thats 12 led's per fitting, decided im only gonna do 4xpakers like those ek honda t/lights pics will be up soon...

i was thinking of doing something similar to this, with out the fancy disco work lol. but i was going to replace the very ends of the BG tail lights with amber/orange LEDs have the rest red as tail light and brakes and have the middle light up for brakes as well.

cant wait to see how yours turn out tho...

ok update... stuffed up wiring leds.
coz i only have a 1cm or so gap or dip what ever u call i fort i'll do the
resistor-pos(LED)neg-res-pos(LED)neg-res-pos(LED) and so on an so forth...
upto the 12th, put it on the batt and BANG! not light:mad:
power gradually gets drained out as it goes from 1 led to the next
so gonna have to do it in 3 groups of 4's rather than 1 group of 12.
btw i new it would happen just wanted to be sure.:D

more common setup is groups of 3 ;)
if you do do it like that (groups of 3) i suggest you wire every 4th one together, so if it DOES blow, you wont have one massive gap
also i wold like to add do you really need a resistor between each LED. wouldnt it b bettr to have just one resistor on the start of the circuit??

i really like the idea/progress so far BTW

Yeah, i've got one resistor every 4th, just in case they do blow.

*this is my first time doing this so i didnt knowwhat the hell i was doing in reguards the resistors so just gonna put 1 on every forth.
*12 devided by 3 equals 4, makes it easier not too much to do(soldering)
burnt myself alot doin dis:o

ok soldered 3 groups of 4xled's 1 resistor for each group @ 470 ohms and this is how it looks bear in mind camera's and light dont work that well but to be honest it looks really good.

Fair enough. Mine are about 18000, but have been dimmed about 30%. You might have trouble seeing them in direct sunlight, so you might want to check that.

decided to make the led's in the chrome fitting as parkers and the chrome reflective paint will make it lil more brighter (better seen at night i reckon)and the trailer lights for the stops
