What budget are you working with?
What are you trying to achieve? eg ride height, handling, comfort or a nice blend of all...
And which springs did you have in mind - and were you thinking springs on stock shocks or will you be getting aftermarket shocks to compensate for the stiffer spring?

coilovers WILL give you a unconfertable ride (dont know about high end ones) but you get used to it quickly :p
they will give you a exact ammound of lowering you want as well
they are hard to install/setup by yourself...
springs are easy install, can give you a better more comfertable ride, but more comfort will result in more overall body roll in corners
there is a reason y gocarts handle like on rails ;)

have a read of this: http://www.astinagt.com/forums/showthread.php?t=14196
It might answer a few questions.

But yes, generally an adjustable coilover setup will be slightly harsher due to the way the top of the shocks are made. With some springs and shocks, you're still using the original top mount of the shocks which is made of rubber. 99% of coilovers have a solid metal top mount that naturally isn't as compliant as a rubber one ;)

^ because they're light and sit an inch off the ground with all the weight down low :)

You can solve body roll with sway bars, but a good spring + shock combo would give you a pretty stiff ride if that's what you wanted... And Ground Control springs give you adjustable height as well... But getting them from the states may not be a process you want to go through. They also run eibach springs which i've heard great things about... so it really comes down to what application you are after and what budget you have to spend on it, and how much hassle you want to go through with the exercise.

If you're going to drop it 80-100mm, then height-adjustable coilovers are your only option. A normal spring/shock combo wont be safe or comfortable as the springs will be too short for the amount of shock travel you'll have before the top of the top of the shock hits the top hat of the suspension. No one makes springs for BA that low anyway.

Quite simply, you can't go that low and have a comfortable ride, as even coilovers will be wound right down and wont have a lot of travel either. But they well be better than a short spring/shock combo

Nor is it likely that you can go that low and still legally drive the car.

Look in Rupewrechts traders section there is a set of MS springs on adjustable MS shocks. Good handling and decent ride, I like them more than the Eibach/KYB combo on my hatch even though the springs are identical.

lowering an ba astina 80-100mm will make the chassis rails 65-95mm off the ground.

i know this as mine is lowered 75mm off the ground and it sits 95-105mm from the ground. using 215/35R18 wheels/tyres. and they sit inside all 4 arches.

i highly doubt you'll need to go lower that 60-75mm, but coilovers are your only option if you require being that low.
