he wants a car under 3K thats why....auctions = cheaper than your usual car + alot more risk. 3K will get something like an old school laser from a dealer/private sale with reg and RWC.

remember kitty.....you get what you pay for and theres no such thing as a bargain when it comes to car shopping :)

cheers mike

Ill disagree with that. I have plenty of friends get cars via Auction at very good prices with minor problems. Its all about being a smart consumer. You need to know what each car is worth on the private market and then have a good idea of what it will cost to fix certain things. You can generally get hold on the auction list prior to the auction so you can do some homework before going down. Set yourself a hard limit on each car and bid untill you reach that limit.

Sure there is risk, but there isnt anymore risk then buying from a private seller. Generally all the auction cars have been assesed by a well known source so you know exactly what your getting. Private sales is dependant on what you do to ensure the car is a good buy. And dont fall into the safety net of thinking a dealer is safer cos thats utter bull****.

Be smart and you will probably pick up a good deal.

English built small, economical and 15's look big on 'em. I'd avoid the model with the CVT transmission

Agree with JynX btw....

Dealers will rip you off as soon as look at you, they are going for maximum commision!

I think the guy will want something that is 10 years old or less....

Made me remember Emma's Lancer, it was an 89 model sure, but we got it for $2400 and it is still going fine nearly 12 months later... she spent $700 fixing it up... did her learning in it, has rear ended it and is running around Darwin in it nowadays (I told her not to slow down for the crocodiles, LOL).... still hasn't missed a beat.... and that's saying something for a car that someone is making all their first car mistakes in!!!

I bought my Cordia for $2600 in Maitland, and it was a beauty too!

Good luck edskii

toyota's appear to be a good buy

they seem well priced for parts and you will always be able to sell them because they seem to hold their value well.....

are you looking at the cs hatch or the more sportier csx model? I forget what the bigger ones are called, but they certainly hold their value very well, they have the longer hatch instead of the flat backed one.

My first car was a toyota corolla (ke15 import). I have also had a celica (jap spec) and I enjoyed both cars. If you get an import, be sure to remove all the alarms and pings though, they are annoying!!!

Cheers!
