View Full Version : BJ Astina - get rid of that door chime!
Ever been annoyed by that constant beeping when you've got the key in the ignition and the door open? And especially when the stereo is on?
Well, there's a neat little mod you can do to get rid of it permanently. If you haven't already come across this on the protege5 forums, follow this link to instructions on how to kill the door chime so you can listen to music in peace, even when the door is open.

Takes about 10-15 minutes to do. Easy.

Of course you can just pull the key half way out, problem solved :)
That doesn't work when the key is in the ACC position though does it?

Well no but if you wants the keys in and the door open it works :)
Point taken. :)
The fix was more so I could listen to the stereo with the door open without that annoying beeping.

well put the ignition onto reds and then it doesnt make that beeping noise or just close the door and open the windows

dazz, havn't you ever been listening to tunes, while dismantling interior??
in this heat, you want the doors open for airflow,
you also don't want to burn out your rheostat!!!

My solution answers the question put forward in the original thread. I still have the buzzer so I don't lock my keys in and if I'm working on the car I'll back of the screw on the door switch a few turns and I'm happy with that. ..|..

yeah, thats a good idea, but i also want it for parking the car and cranking stereo, etc, and well it just annoys me.... i'm weird i use remote central locking so i don;t leave keys in the car

You can always cut the wire under the dash which goes to the existing buzzer and add in a switch, that way you can cut it when you dont want it beeping.

not in the bj.... well you could, but it would be a nightmare to find!!!
just a push button switch i thinks... that way it can be hidden close to the original loom!!
Yeah! Thank you! 5min and no noise! For 2 years ive been putting up with that CRAP sound! Thank god its gone! + The headlight buzzer still works! NICE!!!!!!!
MMM The only thing it does do is stop the int light turning on when u turn the ignition from on to acc!
I actually prefer it that way. But maybe that's just me...
just have to get used to it after 2 years! haha
not fussed at all just freaked me out the other night!
