OK,
i have something which i need to get clarified. as i am slightly confused ATM.

If i was to Run a 10.5" Rim, what Tyre size would be required???

On my dad's 300zx he is running a 265/35/18... on a 10.5" Rim... with only verry minimal stretch.
however, many people believe this size is far too small for a 10.5" rim and would have a ridiculous amount of stretch on it,
and they believe that a 285 - 295 would fit perfectly, as most of the other 300zx owners are running 9.5" rims with 275's .

but i just can't see how the 285 - 295 would even fit, as that would equate to 11.2" - 11.6".???
Why do so many people have this opinion about Tyre size??
Do different Tyre manufacturers measure differently??

what are your opinions???...

here is a small pic of the fitment:

p.s: Rims are Enkei RP03, 10.5"
Tyres are Micheline pilot sport 265/35/18

you are confused cos you are treating tyre width the same as rim width. they are 2 different things altogether.

rim width is the distance the inner and outer mounting lips are apart.

tyre width is the total width of the tyre at it's widest point. not where it mounts against the rim or it's tread.

where the tyre lip rests on the rims is normally 15-30mm thinner than the max width of the tyre, (different for every tyre).

have a look at your tyres where they go inside the rim, the tyre wall curves inwards and behind the lip.

yea, i did understand that part of it, but i didn't realise that it would vary that much.
and also, do some Tyre manufacturers take into account this difference... such as the tyres on my dads 300zx??
as 265mm equates to 10.43" and the tyres do have roughly a 3 -5mm stretch

Providing you arent under bagging the tire on the rim the 265 tire should be fine , its quite normal to over bag the rim by 25 mm but you wouldnt want to go any more than that can create problems. One is the tire can come off the rim if over bagged to far
